Sonobeat was a studio located in Austin, Texas; it made several records at the time that are considered collectibles nowadays. One of the artists that recorded with them was Vince Mariani, who in 1969 had just returned to Austin after several successful experiences with bands in Colorado.
Because at the time several drum solos had been market successes (legendary drummer Sandy Nelson among them) the studio decided to sign Vince Mariani for a single record with two compositions, Pulsar and Boots.
Vince Mariani went on to form his own garage rock band, which he called "Mariani", and he was the first to offer at the time just 15-year old Eric Johnson a "gig", playing his guitar in a group that first remained nameless, then went through several attempted names and ended up being called "Mariani". This record included the classic "Perpetuum Mobile". Even in those early years Eric Johnson blew away the other, more seasoned musicians, with his mastery of the guitar.
Vince Mariani had known Eric since a year ago, when they met in Austin. From this time on, Eric Johnson developed into the guitar prodigy he is considered today, but these were his humble origins, with his (older than him) friend Vince Mariani and the homonymous little band.
There is much more information on Sonobeat's own website; please do a web search with the words "Sonobeat" and "Mariani" and you'll get to that page.
The record we are selling is not, unfortunately, the very expensive classic one. This one was, at the time, a market failure, as drum solos were starting to fade away when this one came into record stores. But it somehow has, in our view, some historic importance because its indirect, historic connection to Eric Johnson.
The record itself seems to us unused, never played, no visible flaws (no scratches or damage). The sleeve shows a bit of yellowing due to age.
