ONE OF ONLY 2000 from the FIRST PRESSING OF THIS HISTORIC RECORDING!
If you are looking at this posting you already know the rarity of any original pressing Throbbing Gristle works. What makes this listing so incredible on top of that is the fact that it is in STUNNING condition and is one of only 2000 copies. This is THE original pressing (of 5000) with the original matrix numbers. It's also got the poster (in immaculate MINT condition) of the band outside KFJC Radio Station in San Jose, CA. This poster only came with 2000 of the original 5000 records that were pressed. Both the poster and record itself are in a remarkably clean condition. The sleeve shows its age but still looks great considering. Overall I believe this is one of the finest you will find of the original 2000 pressed. Please see below for a more detailed description. Will be mailed in a proper record album box, via media mail. Record won't be in sleeve.
Media Mail charge for US customers is $5.00, again it will be shipped in a proper record box and packed with the care that it deserves. International customers please email me for a quote. All international orders will pay a $8.00 handling fee on top of the shipping costs.
Artist or Band: THROBBING GRISTLE
Album Title: 20 Jazz Funk Greats
Track Listing: 20 Jazz Funk Greats; Beachy Head; Still Walking; Tanith; Convincing People; Exotica; Hot on the Heels of Love; Persuasion; Walkabout; What a Day; Six Six Sixties.
Label/Cat Number/Type: Industrial Records IR0008. Stereo.
Label Condition: Mint - this record looks almost unplayed.
Country of Manufacture: Great Britain.
Original Year of Release: 1979
Rarity: Very Rare Indeed, this album is the very first pressing and only 5000 exist with the original matrix numbers. Included with just 2000 of this initial first pressing was the poster of the band outside KFJC Radio Stations in San Jose, California. (Please see the poster picture). This title was recut again on 30-11-79 and the new matrix numbers and messages were: AIR008 A2 and B2. ‘RECUT 30-33-79’ and ‘AH POOK WAS HERE’. Any early Industrial pressing of TG albums are rare anyway. Even the re-pressings were very limited but the first pressings are getting near impossible to find. 5000 copies of any record available to the world is an incredibly rare amount, even privately pressed obscure albums were sometimes pressed in similar numbers. Whittle that down to 2000 with the included poster and you are looking at something truly historic. And now with this quartet’s music being reevaluated they are fast becoming highly collectable and sought after. This is a mint copy, the poster was left unobserved, I don't think the owner even knew it was inside!
Matrix Nos: IR 0008+ and 0008+B (these were the very first pressed matrix numbers)
Vinyl -Condition/Visual Grading: Mint, this is justified here. An immaculate copy that appears virtually unmarked. Super clean and shiny, and jet black, try finding this major rarity better. Visually a stunning record that should please all collectors. It comes in its original plain unlined inner (Mint).
Cover- Grade and Format: VG+
Cover Front: Superb, the famous Beachy Head cover. There is a slight discoloration at the top right of the front cover, right around “STEREO” It will be visible on the picture included. There is a one inch crease at the upper left corner. Slight ring wear from the 11 to 1 o’clock position.
Cover Back: Again, slight ring wear in the same position as the front. There are some crease marks that run parallel with the spine.
Spine and Text: Spine has some wrinkled areas, text is all visible. Tried to include the worst of it in the pictures.
Corners: 3 out of the 4 corners are scuffed. I included a picture of the absolute worst corner which is the bottom left.
Poster -Pure pristine mint, unmounted of course and taking my picture of this was probably the first time it has been taken out of the cover or even unfolded.
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This super record plays up to its high visual grading with little to fault. Strong, undistorted sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. A very fine pressing too, any surface sounds are minimal indeed, there are some very quiet moments on this record but most, if not all play near silent. Both channels are clean and clear as you would expect from such a lightly played record. It has clearly been well stored and looked after, definitely by a non-smoker. Little, if anything spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this unique album. A rare copy that will prove near impossible to find significantly better.
You are bidding on a historic record. I regret having to sell it. A find like this one doesn't come around often.
