Silver Apples Of The Moon Morton Subotnick Electronic Music 1967 LP Record Psych
WoW!!!.... Offered is NONESUCH RECORDS H-71174 STEREO Long Play RECORD for the album release entitled: "SILVER APPLES OF THE MOON" for Electronic Music Synthesizer by electronic music pioneer MORTON SUBOTNICK. This is a original 1967 U.S.A. release of this album. Record is open but the sleeve is still covered in it's original shrink-wrap plastic.

Morton Subotnick (born April 14, 1933) is an American composer of electronic music, best known for his Silver Apples of the Moon, the first electronic work commissioned by a record company, Nonesuch. He was one of the founding members of California Institute of the Arts, where he taught for many years. Subotnick has worked extensively with interactive electronics and multi-media, co-founding the San Francisco Tape Music Center with Ramon Sender, and often collaborating with his wife Joan La Barbara.

Morton Subotnick is one of the pioneers in the development of electronic music and multi-media performance and an innovator in works involving instruments and other media, including interactive computer music systems. Most of his music calls for a computer part, or live electronic processing; his oeuvre utilizes many of the important technological breakthroughs in the history of the genre.

Early electronic music was made using wave generators and tape-manipulated sounds. Subotnick was among the first composers to work with electronic instrument designer Don Buchla. Buchla's modular voltage-controlled synthesizer, which he called the Electric Music Box and which was constructed partly based on suggestions by Subotnick and Sender was both more flexible and easier to use, and its sequencing ability was integral to Subotnick's music. At a time when electronic music was highly abstract, largely concerned with pitch and timbre, with rhythm an afterthought or of no consequence and patterns largely avoided, Subotnick broke with the academic avant-gardists by including sections with regular rhythms on Silver Apples Of The Moon.

Highly influential in the Counterculture, Psychedelic and Peace & Love Music Scene of 1967 in California and elsewhere. A very nice copy of this highly important album in the history and development of Electronic Music in all of it's forms.

Just for clarity: this is a vintage Vinyl Long Play Record Album... it is not a Compact Disc.

GRADING (Visual Only unless otherwise noted):

RECORD: EXCELLENT (EX) with a very minimal number of very light handling scratches and scuffs and very slight signs of a light spindle marking. Otherwise with clean, bright and complete unmarked labels and very clean, glossy vinyl.

SLEEVE: VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) with the album still covered with the original, complete plastic-shrink-wrap. Sleeve shows slight to moderate wear and bumping to all four corners. No remainder cuts or holes.

OTHER: has a purple on white Nonesuch Records advertising inner sleeve with catalog record listings.

GOLDMINE (U.S.) grading system used with some added notes as described below. Plus and minus gradients used only as shown below:

MINT (M): Brand new condition, absolutely perfect in every way. All original pieces (such as inner sleeve, lyric sheets, inserts, cover, record) are present. OVERALL APPEARANCE: Looks as if it just came off the manufacturing line. RECORD: No scuffs or scratches. LABELS: no writing, stickers or spindle marks and will be perfectly centered. COVER/SLEEVE: No blotches, stains, discoloration, stickers, ring wear, dinged corners, seam splits or writing. NOTE: This grade not used for opened records by Barb City Mercantile as a matter of policy but Still Sealed records may receive this grade.
NEAR MINT (NM): Appears new but is known to have been played or has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played at least once by them. All original pieces are present. OVERALL APPEARANCE: Looks as if it just came from a store and was just opened. RECORD: Shiny surface, free of visible defects, no surface noise at playback. LABELS: Properly pressed and centered on the record, free of writing, stickers, spindle marks, blemishes or other markings. COVER/SLEEVE: Free of creases, ring wear and seam splits. No writing or owner applied labels allowed. May not have any remainder cut corners, saw-cut, holes or writing. NOTE: This is the highest grade that Barb City Mercantile will assign to a open record.
EXCELLENT (EX): Just slightly better then Very Good Plus (see below) but perhaps just a single, slight defect away from Near Mint (see above). Many might call this VG++ but eBay appears to prefer to call it Excellent.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): Except for a few minor condition issues, these records would be Near Mint. OVERALL APPEARANCE: Shows slight signs of wear and handling. RECORD: May have light scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect the listening experience or slight warps that don't affect the sound. Original glossy finish present. LABELS: Free of writing, stickers or major blemishes. May be slightly offset or exhibit minor printing errors. May show several light spindle markings. COVER/SLEEVE: May show light ring wear, discoloration or seam wear. May show a short seam split along the bottom seam only. Slight bumping to several corners may be present. A remainder cut corner may be present.
VERY GOOD (VG): Record will show obvious flaws not seen in better grade records but will still be capable of providing a fine listening experience... just not as good as a better grade record. OVERALL APPEARANCE: Shows obvious signs of wear and handling. RECORD: Original glossy finish present but dull. Groove wear is evident on sight and light scratches are deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, may have surface noise and some scratches may be audible but noise will not overpower the music. LABELS: May have minor writing, tape or a sticker/label. May be offset to a large degree and show major printing defects. Many spindle marks may be present. COVER/SLEEVE: Will show obvious signs of handling and normal wear. Ring wear is expected at the edges and in the middle. Seam splits may appear on all three sides but won't be obvious. Writing or a price tag may be present. Cover surfaces may be dull or discolored, have bumped and bent corners, stains or other problems. A remainder saw cut or drill hole may be present. A sleeve exhibiting three or more of these faults will be graded lower.
VERY GOOD MINUS (VG-): Can be used as a playable collection filler until something better comes along. OVERALL APPEARANCE: Will show considerable signs of handling and use. RECORD: Record will play without skipping. Surface sheen will be almost gone. May have significant surface noise and groove wear. LABELS: Will show surface wear, stains, heavy writing, and damage from attempted removal of tape or labels. COVER/SLEEVE: Shows ring and edge wear to the point of distraction, has obvious seam splits, heavy or large writing or lettering and will show much surface wear, folding, creasing and dog-eared corners. May show a combination of remainder cuts or markings.
FAIR (F) or POOR (P): Collection filler only as record will skip when played or be unplayable. Most certainly a hard to find record or you would buy a better grade one. OVERALL APPEARANCE: Beat, trashed and dull. Records may lack sleeves (or vise versa). RECORD: Vinyl may be cracked, heavily scratched and significantly warped. Record will skip or repeat when play is attempted. LABELS: May be missing large sections or may be completely gone. COVER/SLEEVE: Very heavy damage, almost beyond description. NOTE: This grade seldom used by Barb City Mercantile... it would have to be a very hard to find record for us to consider listing a record with this grade.

* All grading is done visually unless otherwise stated. Please examine the photos and e-mail any questions you may have regarding the record album prior to auction end or purchase.
