The Smiths 'This Charming Man'

Rough Trade Records, London

RTT136

1983
Side 1 Run-out 'Will Nature Make A Man Of Me Yet?'
Side 1 Run-out 'A Porky Prime Cut'

A Rarity(?).First pressing sleeve without band's name "The Smiths" on the cover, Capitol Records parody logo for Rough Trade on back sleeve, Yet the vinyl has the block print 'no dome' Rough Trade logo. To add to the rarity the sleeve has the incorrect Lyric"Why pander life's complexities"while the Side 1 Run-out says 'Will Nature Make A Man Of Me Yet?'

From Discogs; The initial UK release of both the 12” (this) and the 7” featured an alternate Rough Trade logo that was a parody of the classic Capitol Records logo, with a capitol dome over “Rough” in bold cursive over “TRADE” typeset. The logo on the back of the sleeve added an oval ring (also a Capitol hallmark). Morrissey is said to have objected to its use, so the offending logos on the labels were first covered with stickers on both 7” and 12” versions, before altered labels and jackets were printed without the dome. Capitol Records does not appear to have objected to the parody of its trademark, so Rough Trade used the remaining “withdrawn” dome-logo sleeves throughout 1983-84 (especially for export copies), and as a result various combinations of labels and sleeves exist.

PLEASE READ BELOW FOR Our Grading System Explained!

Mint (M) - Absolutely perfect in every way. Unless it's actually sealed we won't say it's mint.

Near Mint (NM) - A nearly perfect record. No obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve has no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. An LP cover has no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar defects.

VG+- A Very Good Plus record has some signs that it was played and handled by a previous owner who took good care. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. The label may have some ring slight wear or discolouration. Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount.

VG- Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers.

G+ - Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine.
