Rare 78 rpm shellac record album set: THE LIBERATION OF PARIS - ASCH RECORDS No. 50 - a three-disc set in heavy album cover, released in 1945. A very scarce item. An historical documentary recorded in Paris in French and English, with Commentary by Orson Welles and Emlen Etting, and including speeches by General Eisenhower and General De Gaulle (other highlights include poems written and read by both Paul Éluard and Pierre Schaeffer, Anna Marly singing "Chant des Partisans", battle sounds, street sounds of the liberated populace, and much more). In addition to the historical interest, this item also boasts the first recorded work of PIERRE SCHAEFFER - later a composer and a creator of the avant-garde Musique Concrete, at the time he was acting chief of the Paris Underground Radio Station during liberation, and he is credited for conceiving of this project and editing it; he also reads his poem "Marseillaise Of Liberation". There are liner notes inside the front cover which mention all of the above, and also note that this album is considered to be the first radio-montage of recorded historic events.
Condition is EX/VG+ (the records are in very nice shape with a few soft surface scuffs and several soft scratches; I can't test them but they appear to be EX; clean labels; cover/album has moderate edge and corner rubbing, bumped corner, two 2.5-inch splits at hinge extremities (top of front hinge, bottom of rear hinge), and minor cover rubbing; damp stain to bottom of spine and left side of bottom edges).
