This is the original Van-Gelder-stamped mono Plastylite test pressing for Hank Mobley “Dippin’” on Blue Note BLP 4209. What makes this unusual – if not unique – is the presence of the “P” in the dead wax, which was absent from all issued copies; obviously, between the time the test pressing was made and the commercial copy was released, Blue Note had discontinued using Plastylite. Side 1 is in beautiful condition, with a high luster; Side 2 had three light inaudible handling marks, a small mark at the beginning of Track 2 that produces two tics, and what appears to be a pressing defect on Track 3 that is nearly inaudible.
Personnel include Lee Morgan, Harold Mabern, Larry Ridley, and Billy Higgins.
