Genuine 1st edition Dark Side of the Moon with the famous blue triangle. I inherited this recently and have decided to sell as I need the cash for my season ticket at Anfield next year. Needs must, but not something I really wanted to do. The second photo shows it next to one of my recent copies of DSOTM to show the definitive blue tinge to the cover.
From the general criteria for records I would say that most of the album is excellent i.e. obviously played but with little deterioration in sound quality - with the exception of Great Gig in the Sky which has a scratch (see details below) to rate it as good.
I would rate the cover as between excellent and very good i.e. has some wear and tear and creasing.
It does not have the postcards or posters but I have more recent ones (mint) that I will included if this sells for £170 or more.
As I inherited it, I had to do a recent listen on my turntable to check it out for wear and tear. I am happy to report that it would be very welcome in my record collection and is in good condition but I here include my detailed impressions on each track (What a fabulous fabulous album this is):
Side One:
Speak to me - a few minor crackles at the start but then not noticeable during the track.
Breath - 1 or 2 minor crackles at the start but fine after that.
On the run - bit of a crackle right at the end (not a scratch but a crackle) before the bells of Time.
Time - seemed very good and I really didn't notice anything even in the quieter moments.
The Great Gig in the Sky - Piano intro - 1 or 2 minor crackles - just before the track quickens there is a scratch that runs for about 25 seconds (little click on about 8 rotations). It is the worst damage on the album but, in my humble opinion, did not affect my enjoyment of the track or album at all. It is not a deal breaker nor did it jump. (It is photographed in one of the pictures) Fine for the rest of the track.
Side Two:
Money - 1 or 2 minor crackles at the start - great for the rest.
Us and Them - 1 or 2 minor crackles as Us and Them comes in but fine for the rest. No noticeable issues.
Any Colour You like - Seems fine - (By this point I was really enjoying sitting listening to this album on vinyl for the first time in about 20 years! It's brilliance overcame my fear that it might not be a good copy and I had confidence to just enjoy what I was listening to. Thought I'd mention it!)
Brain Damage/Eclipse - no issues spotted - faint odd crackle on the heartbeat out - but nothing detrimental.
So there you have it - not mint but in my honest opinion a copy that belies its years. I know that it hasn't been played for around 20 years. There are marks on the disc and the centres, but this is from storage and doesn't seem to come through to the important bit - the bass and treble balance seem to be good. I'd be playing it now if I wasn't selling it!
As for the condition of the sleeve/packaging - you can judge this from the photos as I've tried to represent it as clearly as possible. there is some wear but the packaging is sound and does not seem to have been glued/repaired. I am not a professional seller so I'm expressing this as an honest comparison with my existing collection.
