RARE 10-inch shellac race record: JACK JOHNSON - Runnin' Down the Title Holder, Part 1 and Part 2 - Ajax Records 17024, the Compo Co. Ltd., Lachine, Quebec, Canada.  A very rare recording by boxer Jack Johnson, the first black Heavyweight Champion of the World. It was made in the early 1920's for Ajax Records, which were produced in Canada for the U.S. "race" market. Johnson was quite a celebrity and character in his day, "notorious" by the standards of the time. At one time he even was leader of a jazz band. His two-part recording. "Runnin' Down The Title Holder", was one of a very tiny number made by Johnson, all of which are extremely rare. The last time this one was available online was back in 2014.

CONDITION is VG+ (although glossy and clean overall, it has a small half-inch scratch to one side and small area of scribble-like scratching to the other - both of these I can feel, but I'm 90% sure that they would only some ticking; minor scuffs and long soft mark to labels).

MORE TO COME - I've listed and will be listing many other rare 10" and 12" shellac records over the next month or two, mainly historical events, sports, personalities, politicians, speeches, military, WWI, WWII, presidential & campaign, kings & queens, etc.
A NOTE ON SHIPPING SHELLAC RECORDS: I use the floating method, with the record sandwiched between strong pieces of cardboard with corrugate in opposite directions, then placed inside a larger sturdy box with packing material all around inside to prevent any movement (either peanuts, large-bubble wrap, or crumpled paper). Sometimes if I have old 10" LP jackets I don't need, I will put your record in it before sandwiching; otherwise will be in a paper sleeve. I will also always insure these with the USPS. Due to the extra time, materials, insurance, and overall high level of stress associated with shipping these safely (YOU know!), I am asking $6.00 for Media Mail shipping ($4 is actual shipping cost). I think it is reasonable, and I get the feeling that most collectors who buy these online are happy to pay a little extra for the added assurance.
