SO HERE ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS:
WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW?
WHY COLLECT THEM?
WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?
Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.
Let me tell you my personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows.
I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story.
This was before ebay became the driving force in radio show sales (and everything else) in the later 1990's.
I was especially attracted in "Discoveries" to a two page (or more) spread in each issue by a guy called "The Old Hippie".
Let me tell you, the Old Hippie had it all. He was a real pioneer. Way before anyone knew what radio shows even were let alone that they could be bought as rarities, he had the market cornered.
Most shows that he advertised were way beyond my budget but I drooled over those pages every issue and once in awhile I could afford one or two.
Now, I have attempted in my own humble way to take on the mantle of "The Old Hippie". I have listed almost 10,000 unique radio shows of all genres for you all to drool over and most at prices, hopefully, that collectors can better afford! I want to make available to collectors what I could not afford and in these days of higher prices and lesser availability.
I have several resources still available to me and I am always receptive to sellers who contact me with bulk amounts of shows for sale. By buying in bulk, even when many are the lesser popular shows, I can offer the best prices in all titles
So, again, what is a radio show?
Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break.
Many air on Saturday or Sunday evenings or during overnight segments.
They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others.
People collect them for various reasons.
Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.
Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music. Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation bought at Wal Mart or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and often with dj presentation which is very entertaining.
Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments.
Some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those.
AND, these shows are in limited quantity.
They were pressed just for syndicated stations.
Many have just a few in circulation. Some of the more popular shows may have as many as a few hundred of each week's show that survived but think about it. A few hundred for some 200 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music.
PLUS, many radio stations simply threw them away after airing because they could never be played again due to the time dated commercial content and given the limited storage available in most radio stations. I know; I work at one!!!
SO they are increasingly hard to find. They were first distributed on reel to reel tape if the show goes back that far into the 60's, then later on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR. Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes.
These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them and the people who sell them, like me, are running out of them. My best contact for these shows, a station general manager, is now out of shows so I am now at the mercy of finding a good deal here and there but never from a regular source. The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.
I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a no holds barred guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money. I sell them for near what I bought them for. I give volume discounts and discount postage always. As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years has decreased.
And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of over ten thousand shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had.
Finally, it is Americana at its best.
Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown.
And you just can't find them anywhere. Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any. Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise.
And every one you buy is an original, not a copy, not a remake - all limited editions in the hundreds at most and many much less. Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life! Welcome to the Club!
WHEN WE LOST DICK CLARK, A NATIONAL TREASURE AND ICON. WE LOST A MAN THAT SO MANY OF US HAD GROWN UP TO AND LEARNED ABOUT THE EVOLUTION OF POP AND ROCK MUSIC FROM.
PLUS HE WAS AN INSPIRATION TO MILLIONS FOR HIS DETERMINATION , COURAGE AND INNER STRENGTH TO PERSEVERE AND GO ON AFTER SUFFERING A DEBILITATING STROKE. WE STILL TUNED IN EVERY NEW YEAR'S EVE TO SEE DICK AND IF YOU REMEMBER, HIS LAST NEW YEAR'S HE LOOKED AND SOUNDED BETTER THAN AT ANY TIME SINCE HIS STROKE.
DICK CLARK MORE THAN ANY OTHER PERSON IN MUSICAL HISTORY DEFINED MUSIC FOR A WHOLE GENERATION OF PEOPLE. WHAT HE DID COULD NEVER BE REPLICATED. HE WAS A MUSICAL GENIUS AND HUMBLE BESIDES. HE WAS LIKED BY EVERYONE IN AND OUT OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. WE WILL MISS HIM.
IN ORDER TO ALLOW AS MANY COLLECTORS AS POSSIBLE TO HAVE A SHOW OF DICK'S FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL COLLECTION, I HAVE LISTED, AND WILL CONTINUE TO LIST UNTIL THEY ARE ALL GONE, DICK CLARK'S ROCK ROLL AND REMEMBER 4 HOUR WEEKLY OLDIES SHOW.
THIS SERIES WAS DICK'S PREMIER SERIES
IT WAS SENT TO STATIONS ONCE WEEKLY
The show is a syndicated four hour weekly program from United Stations Radio Network, a company huge in music syndication, and which was partially owned by Dick Clark, and has featured Dick along with other world renowned dj's since its inception in 1982.
All this comes with Dick's soothing trademark voice and his vast expertise which he shares every part of every show. A show with Dick Clark is like attending a class in music history and in this case world history and you come out of each class ready for the exam on that week.
The show comes on FOUR LP's in new condition with their cue sheets and album cover and looking like they were just pressed.
The album covers range from excellent to good condition with wear from being stored for all these many years with four heavy lps inside!
DICK CLARK'S ROCK, ROLL AND REMEMBER FEATURED ONE ARTIST DURING THE FOUR HOURS WITH MANY INTERVIEW SEGMENTS WITH THE ARTIST OR GROUP AND UP TO 16 OF THEIR CLASSIC HITS.
THERE WERE ALSO SEVERAL MINI ARTIST TRIBUTES DURING THE FOUR HOURS ALONG WITH INTERVIEWS.
THERE WAS AN AMERICAN BANDSTAND SEGMENT WITH DICK REMEMBERING THE GLORY DAYS OF THE SHOW
THERE WERE MINI TRIBUTES TO VARIOUS THEMES LIKE SUMMER SONGS, GIRL GROUPS, AND MANY OTHERS.
THERE WAS AN AMERICAN BANDSTAND FEATURE A COUPLE OF TIMES EACH SHOW REMEMBERING THE GREAT EARLY DAYS OF ROCK AND ROLL.
AND EACH SHOW CONTAINED A TRIBUTE TO A YEAR IN EARLY ROCK HISTORY WITH MANY SONGS FROM THAT YEAR.
AND ALL THIS IN A FOUR HOUR WEEKLY HISTORY OF THE GLORY YEARS OF ROCK AND ROLL.
AND BEST OF ALL PRESENTED BY THE VOICE YOU REMEMBER FROM GROWING UP AND WATCHING DICK CLARK ON TV, FOREVER YOUNG.
PLEASE NOTE, THESE EARLY 'BLACK BOX' DICK CLARK SHOWS FEATURED LEGENDARY LOS ANGELES DJ AND PERSONALITY GENE WEED WITH DICK JOINING IN AT VARIOUS PARTS OF THE SHOW.
THIS WAS BECAUSE DICK WAS UNDER CONTRACT WITH MUTUAL BROADCASTING AT THE TIME SO COULD NOT HOST THE ENTIRE SHOW UNDER THE AUSPICES OF ANOTHER COMPANY.
THIS ONLY OCCURRED DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF THE SHOW. THESE 'BLACK BOX' SHOWS ARE THE RAREST OF THE DICK CLARK SERIES.
IT IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OF THIS SHOW WHICH IS SHOW #2 IN THE SERIES THAT BEGAN IN 1982 AND CONTINUES TODAY MUCH LIKE IT BEGAN 37 YEARS AGO WITH A HOST AND VINTAGE DICK CLARK INTERVIEWS MIXED IN.
THE COST FOR THIS 'BLACK BOX' SHOW IS HIGHER BECAUSE IT IS SO RARE.
HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ON GENE WEED FROM HIS VARIETY MAGAZINE OBITUARY WHEN HE PASSED AWAY IN 1999
Before joining Dick Clark Prods., Weed was a producer and director of music videos when they were in their infancy. He worked with such recording artists as Glen Campbell, the Fifth Dimension, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Debby Boone.
Weed also produced or directed hundreds of TV commercials and dozens of industrial and sales presentations.
Born April 12, 1935 in Dallas, he embarked on a career as a disc jockey while attending North Texas State U.
He spent the next 15 years as one of the most highly rated air personalities in every market he worked in, including Dallas, Miami, Omaha and Los Angeles.
During 1964-65, he segued into television, hosting the half-hour nationally syndicated TV show “Shivaree,” which aired in more than 150 markets in the U.S. and seven countries internationally. The show aired for three years.
Weed, who served as senior VP of television for Dick Clark Prods., helped develop, produce and direct numerous TV series, specials and annual events. For many years, he produced or directed the “Golden Globe Awards,” “The Academy of Country Music Awards” and “The Soap Opera Digest Awards.”
Other TV specials of note produced or directed by Weed include: “Farm Aid III and IV,” “The Lou Rawls Parade of Stars” and the three-hour “Live Aid” concert for ABC.
THIS SHOW AIRED ON NOVEMBER 13, 1982 AND WAS SHOW #40
The featured artist was THE ONE AND ONLY BYRDS
THERE ARE 8 BYRDS SONGS AND EIGHT INTERVIEWS WITH ROGER McGUINN THROUGHOUT THE SHOW
THE CONTENTS OF THIS GREAT SHOW CAN BE SEEN ON THE CUE SHEETS IN THE LISTING PICTURES.
Please note that these shows INCLUDE THEIR CUE SHEETS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE LP's THEMSELVES ARE BEAUTIFUL AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE LISTING. THEY ARE PRISTINE AND LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN AIRED EVER! THEY HAVE BEEN PLAYED ONLY ONCE, THE DAY THEY WERE AIRED.
These shows are not only Americana, they are Dick Clark Americana.
The history of rock and roll and its evolution to today cannot be discussed without Dick Clark entering into the mix again and again. These shows give you an opportunity to have something that few people in the world can own, Dick Clark on an authentic, rare, mint condition actual radio show. These shows belong in your collection.
I am pleased to offer these great and rare shows to you. It is not only the music but a piece of Americana that most people do not even know about. It is a piece of radio history you are getting with these shows. You just aren't going to find these shows anymore. Think of what they will be worth in a few years! (IF you wanted to sell.)
I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price. I am saving those shows I treasure the most and sharing the rest with you for very reasonable prices.
Even the commercials are great and fun to listen to and remember they are over 37 years old
Remember that these shows are disappearing from the market because they are no longer available. The lp shows have not been made since the early 90's and they have the truest fidelity as you know if you are an audiophile. The CD shows are now also unavailable as shows are now only in digital downloads. So, the days of unique shows not copied from the soundboard of a station and sold as such are gone. This is all there is and will be.
It is said that selling radio shows is a vanishing hobby as the shows quickly disappear. Well, I still sell Betamax machines and they sell quickly whenever I list them so that is not true, but it is true that they will become rarer and harder to find so grab them now while the prices are still reasonable.
Good Luck and God Bless You.
