A relic melodic unfolding of the peace and love journey through the hippie "Summer Of Love" magic of 1967... this album is really one of the cornerstones of psychedelic rock, the album that literally made the Haight-Ashbury scene, the album that put San Francisco on the rock map, one of those albums that equalled any album of The Beatles? influence, the album that allows all superlatives (including the launch of The Summer Of Love) without too much a feeling of exaggeration.
This album defines what the "summer of love" was all about and defined what it is everyone was "fighting" for.
The song Coming Back to Me (with Jerry Garcia's help) may be one of the most beautiful and peaceful songs of the 60's. She Has Funny Cars sets the mood for the album by opening with Grace Slick's voice almost echoing the verses of Jefferson's other male members which gives you the many variations of beautiful sounds that this band can produce. Also, White Rabbit of course was Grace Slick's cry for change and exploration into a world of psychedelic drugs and vivid colors and imagination that defined the image and true spirit of the 60's and the hippie's that experienced it. Jefferson Airplane truly provided a pillow that the confused and troubled youth of the time could rest their head on in times of war, drugs, and rock and roll...it wasn’t so forceful, however, as to turn off (or frighten) the mainstream — largely because they didn’t know what was happening — but it was strong enough to reach the youth of America, launching what became known as the "Summer of Love."
