The Greatest 64 MOTOWN ORIGINAL HITS is a special four LP box set compilation of some of the label's greatest hits that was released in 1975. Motown made a deal with CIMCO as part of a massive television marketing campaign to sell this package. Motown lists the four discs internally as catalog numbers 834, 835, 836, and 837 but that is not marked on this edition.
The original box, inner sleeves and vinyl discs are VG+, which is as high as I go on grading vintage vinyl. The box has some edge wear on the bottom and two of the box corners have splits. Please see the pictures.
This box set represents a great introduction to the musical magic of Motown with multiple hits by Diana Ross & The Supremes, Temptations, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, Martha & The Vandellas, Marvelettes, Jr. Walker, and many more.
Included as a bonus is The Motown Story, a 26 page color booklet about Motown and its artists that was released along with the early 1970's five album series of the same name which contained many of the same hits as in this box set but it was not part of this release.
In addition to its original packaging, this album will come with high quality Anti-Static Round Bottom Sleeves to hold the four vinyl discs.
Free shipping is included in the special corrugated album mailer seen in the last two pictures.
This vintage 12" vinyl box set has been sitting upright on a shelf in climate controlled storage for the past 45 years. It has not been played in decades other than a quick test spin for this sale which found no skips or obvious flaws. Like all used records it should be cleaned with an anti-static brush to minimize the occasional pops that are part of playing vinyl albums. Buyers should note that this is a well-cared for but used record and it will have some minor imperfections.
