PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. HARD HEAVY DETROIT LEGENDS
..|/\|...............................................|/\|..THE THIRD POWER
"BELIEVE"
USA - VANGUARD RECORDS - SD 6554
Original 1970 first pressing -- fan favorite heavy psych rock LP that had been underestimated for a good while, then in the last 10 years the collector masses finally got the idea and now, a prized heavy-rock/psych collectible. The Third Power were one of the highly respected bands from the late 60's DETROIT scene playing around the area with fellow Michigan bands The Stooges, MC-5. SRC, Frost, etc...
includes the original printed Vanguard inner sleeve ...
Hailing from Detroit City, hard rockers THE Third Power were led by singer/guitarist Drew Abbott (later to become a longtime member of Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band), along with bassist Jem Targal and drummer Jim Craig.
Drew Abbott has seen the highs and lows of the music industry. He came onto the emerging Detroit music scene in 1967 with his band Third Power. The group released one album, “Believe,” in 1969 on the Vanguard Label. But label executives thought the album was too heavy, never gave it any promotional support and dropped the band literally days after the album was released.
The THIRD POWER was Detroit’s answer to Cream back in the late 60’s to early 70’s and in fact did a rendition of “I’m So Glad” that rivaled anything Cream did. THIRD POWER was intense sonic output, a power trio that used high output vacuum tube Traynor amps and pretty much did entirely original music. And they did it at volumetric decibles that surely contributed to hearing loss among many an aged hippie; the Who had little edge in that respect save they had a bigger PA system.
THIRD POWER was always a draw at any Detroit venue. This album is purely studio; way too produced and laden with overdubs -- impossible to duplicate live, at least with the technology available then -- it was sadly ignored and did not capture the all important FM underground radio market and most importantly, did not sell well outside of Detroit and related environs.
Seemingly light years later, a solid sought after collectible that represents an accurate accounting of the Detroit music scene along with some decent lyrics and musicianship. Should you have liked the MC-5 or The Frost, this would be the intensity of these groups amplified with a more cerebral appeal.
