Original 1969 first album by highly interesting underground psychedelic group who played with most of the heavies from the San Francisco hippie rock scene... WOMB made two collected albums, then vanished off the map forever....

This is the first Womb album is a variety of psychedelic rock with male/female vocals, flutes, reeds and percussion. The sweet voice comes from Karyl Boddy, who also plays keys and guitar.
WOMB shift styles well, tackling bluespsych ("Morning Rises Early"), psychrock ("My Baby Thinks About the Good Things", and the all-too-short "Mary Miles Ryan"), and folkpsych ("Conceptions of Reality II", "Hang On").
The band's only mistake is under-utilizing and mis-casting the absolutely angelic voice of Karyl Boddy. Her vocals on the lead track are enchanting, but elsewhere she aspires to something more raw, and while she does this admirably as well, a few more ballads would seem to have propelled the album commercially.
The centerpiece of the album, the eighteen-minute car crash drama "Happy Egotist" is all about dark humor of a complete narcissist who wonders why he should be punished for his girlfriend's death ...this track has a creative spark that's missing from all the similar odes in rock history (Bloodrock ~ "D.O.A." etc.)
