The Muppet Movie is a 1979 musical road comedy film directed by James Frawley and produced by Jim Henson. A UK-US co-production, it was the first theatrical film in The Muppets franchise. Produced between the first and second half of The Muppet Show's third season on TV, the film tells the origin story of the Muppets, as Kermit the Frog embarks on a cross-country trip to Hollywood, encountering several of the Muppets - who all share the same ambition of finding success in professional show business - along the way while being pursued by Doc Hopper, an evil restaurateur with intentions of employing Kermit as a spokesperson for his frog legs business.

In addition to the Muppet performers, the film also stars Charles Durning and Austin Pendleton, and it features cameo appearances by Dom DeLuise, James Coburn, Steve Martin, and Mel Brooks, among others. The success of The Muppet Movie led to several other feature films starring the Muppets in different medias. In 2009, the film was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

The Muppet Movie: Original Soundtrack Recording features the songs and select score written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher. Originally released on LP by 'Atlantic Records' in America and by 'CBS Records' internationally, the album reached #32 on the US Billboard '200' chart, and was certified Gold. The album won the Grammy Award for 'Best Childrens Album' and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award. The song 'Rainbow Connection' was released as a single and reached #25 on the Billboard 'Hot 100' chart. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for 'Best Original Song'.

This Limited Edition reissue of the album, is the first time it has been available again on vinyl for 35 years.
