John Lennon & Yoko Ono released their fifth album "Double Fantasy" in November 1980 on Geffen Records. It was initially greeted with tepid reviews but three weeks after its release Lennon was assassinated and the record quickly climbed the charts. Singles included "(Just Like) Starting Over" and "Woman."
This promo copy (GHS 2001) is from the first pressing and is in excellent condition. This initial copy was printed with the wrong track listing on the back cover. It still has its original factory shrink wrap so it and inner lyrics sleeve are easily VG+. Please see the pictures. The disc test plays cleanly and is also VG+ which is as high as I go on vintage vinyl. It was mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound in NYC and was pressed at the Capitol Records plant in Los Angeles. The Side 1 dead wax is etched GHS-1-2001-LW1 except ✻ ✻ Sterling which is stamped.
In addition to its original packaging, this album will come with a high quality Anti-Static Round Bottom Inner Sleeve to hold the vinyl disc and a sturdy 3 mil. polyethylene Archival Quality Outer Sleeve. It will ship securely in the special corrugated Album Mailer seen in the last picture.
This vintage 12" vinyl album has been sitting upright on a shelf in climate controlled storage for the past 41 years. It has not been played in decades other than a quick test spin for this sale which found no skips or obvious flaws. Like all used records it should be cleaned and wiped with an anti-static brush to minimize the occasional pops that are part of playing vinyl albums. Buyers should note that this is a well-cared for but used record and it will have some minor imperfections.
