This is the rare original deep-groove 1956 pressing of Coleman Hawkins “A Documentary” on the white reel-logo labels of Riverside RLP 117/118. The flat rim playing surfaces are in exceptional conditional; perhaps played once, if at all. Both records are still in their original glassine sleeves. The laminated gatefold cover is in virtually mint condition: sharp corners, perfect seams, unworn cloth-bound spine; immaculate throughout. The importance of this recording cannot be overstated. On these four sides, Hawkins and Riverside owner Bill Grauer engage in a casual, unscripted dialogue during which Hawkins recounts his career. A very important historical document.
