The Doors released their self-titled debut "The Doors" in January 1967 on Elektra Records. It was an enormous success and is widely considered one of the best debut albums of all time. The Doors initially signed to Columbia Records in 1966 but were dropped before signing with Elektra. The first single "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" was initially ignored by radio but the second single "Light My Fire" shot to No. 1 when a shorter 2:52 "single" version was released. The duration of "Light My Fire on the album's back cover is listed as 6:50 and 6:30 on the disc label.
This rare copy of (EKS-7407) is a Stereo record as noted by the oval sticker on the front cover and disc labels but it was issued in the Mono cover for EKL-4007. The cover seams are solid but there is some ring wear after 54 years and it has some initials on it so I rate it VG. Please see the pictures. The disc test plays cleanly with only a bit of static in some spots and is also VG. It was recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood and this copy was pressed by Monarch Record Mfg. Co. in Los Angeles. The Side One dead wax is etched EKS-74007A (M) (MR) Δ9991 except the Monarch (MR) logo which is stamped.
In addition to its original packaging, this album will come with a high quality Anti-Static Round Bottom Inner Sleeve to hold the vinyl disc and a sturdy 3 mil. polyethylene Archival Quality Outer Sleeve.
Free shipping is included in the special corrugated album mailer seen in the last picture.
This vintage 12" vinyl album has been sitting upright on a shelf in climate controlled storage for the past 54 years. It has not been played in decades other than a quick test spin for this sale which found no skips or obvious flaws. Like all used records it should be cleaned and wiped with an anti-static brush to minimize the occasional pops that are part of playing vinyl albums. Buyers should note that this is a well-cared for but used record and it will have some minor imperfections.
