Released in 1996, ‘October Rust’ represented something of a commercial breakthrough for American goth metal band Type O Negative, being their first to penetrate the Top Fifty of the Billboard albums chart. Their first effort to feature drummer Johnny Kelly, it moved more into the territory of ballads and away from the band’s initial doom metal sound, and included an ultra-heavy cover of Neil Young’s ‘Cinnamon Girl’.
