In celebration of his 100th birthday, Karlrecords is issuing a 5xLP (or 5xcd) box set of Iannis Xenakis ’masterful avant-garde works. Considered one of the most important composers of the 20th century, Xenakis ’influence can be heard both in the world of conservatory-trained composers as well as in music that skews less academic and more experimental. Hints of his celebrated later work and its use of harsh, almost ruthless sound synthesis is certainly heard in today’s noise and industrial music. With a new mix by longtime zeitkratzer sound engineer Martin Wurmnest and mastering from Reinhokld Friedl, Xenakis ’music can finally be heard (and felt) as the artist intended.
