For sale here is a lovely copy of Floyds 2nd album. "A saucerful of secrets". UK VERY 1st mono pressing. I will quickly point out the markers that make this one of the first 450 to 500 albums in the pressing run. Firstly, and most importantly, it has the very first mothers to both sides, which is 1. Then both sides also have the very first stamper, G. It has the VERY earliest spelling mistake on the label of side one. It says "Let there ME more light" instead of "let there BE more light". Also, all the credits to both sides state Magdelene music, not Lupus music as later copies do. So this is the real deal and with all the aforementioned criteria, who knows exactly where this one sits in the very first pressing run?
Laminated Garrod and Lofthouse cover is in quite stunning condition, always stored in protective polythene cover. No shelf-wear at all and with the exception of some light creasing to the front laminate that I have tried to show in my photos, I grade as excellent (Ex).
Vinyl is in great shape. No nasty marks worthy of note, a well cared for example. 152 grams in weight, a real heavyweight. I will provide a detailed play grading further on in this listing, but as a purely visual grading I grade as very good plus (VG+).
The sepia coloured inner sleeve is in superb condition. Barely a crease and no slits or tears. A really strong example and very clean. Easily grades as excellent (Ex). PLAYGRADE:- This thick heavyweight vinyl gives good protection from minor scratches. The deep grooves are a real boon. This is not the perfect copy, but does play extremely well with only minor issues. Side one has a couple of dust "pops" at the start. Track 2 has 4 "pops" in the first 15 seconds and some light background audible in the soft piano sections. Track 3 has a repeat crackle which can be heard in the quiet sections. There are 2 soft clicks on the lead in to track 4 which plays really well. On side 2, track one starts very quietly and there is a pop and a click on the intro. two thirds of the way through there are 5 light clicks. Tracks 2 and 3 play really well and the quiet sections play very quietly. The mono mix is quite different from the stereo mix and this gives a really powerful and dynamic performance. Great depth and clarity. The small issues with the audio might make the album sound a bit poor, but far from it. The vast bulk of it plays exceptionally well and belies its age. Still a hugely engaging and enjoyable listening experience and I have no hesitation grading the sound quality as very good plus (VG+)
I AM ALSO SELLING A LOVELY DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, A2 / B2 WITH SOLID BLUE TRIANGLE. HAS BOTH POSTERS AND CARDS AND IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER ITEMS FOR SALE.
