It really is with the very greatest of pleasure that I bring this superb album to the market place. From the private collection of a very good friend who has sadly gone to the great gig in the sky and he would appreciate that greatly, believe me. Not only is the vinyl in the most superb cared for condition, but the sound quality is real stand out and comes with the VERY earliest stickers, VERY earliest posters, VERY early mothers and stampers and also includes a hugely rare lyric sheet from the concerts in 1972 that were promoting this album prior to release. Full details below.
For sale here is a stunning copy of Pink Floyds most iconic title. "The Dark Side of The Moon". UK 1st pressing with midnight blue cover, both posters, both postcard/stickers and the solid blue triangle labels with A2 / B2 matrix numbers. A 100% genuine example in the greatest shape.
Before I go on to describe the album in detail, a few words on the super rare lyric sheet that has been stored inside of the gatefold cover since the album was bought, in 1973 on day of issue. These were given out at Floyd concerts in January and February 1972, almost a year before the albums release in the UK. They were printed in their hundreds and most probably got torn, thrown away or whatever. This one was obtained at the concert at Leicester's De Montfort Hall in early Feb 72 and is in quite stunning condition. It is 100% genuine, not a copy. It has light fold marks, but no damage at all. Still vivid in colour. No fading as it has been stored inside a dark album cover for nearly 50 years. I doubt you could find one in any condition, let alone as good as this. This piece of rock memorabilia may not be priceless! but good luck in finding another. So, to the album.......
Midnight blue cover is in a really nice condition. There is some light shelfwear that has resulted in some colour loss to top and bottom edges, but nothing too alarming. Please zoom into the photos. You can see the odd small area on front and rear that has colour loss through rubbing against other albums on a shelf. Sealed to left hand side. A very solid and sturdy example and due to the odd spots of colour loss, I must grade as excellent minus (Ex-).
Vinyl is in terrific shape. No marks worthy of note. Very very well cared for example. 140 grams in weight. Matrices are A2 / B2, the earliest of course. Side one mother/stamper is 2/MM. Side two is 2/RG. These are REALLY early numbers indeed. The labels are nice and clean and show maybe 3 spindle trails to one side and 5 to the other. A fully detailed play grading will be listed further through this listing. Graded as visually excellent plus (Ex+).
Please check out the quite wonderful website "Pink Floyd Archives" compiled by Vernon Fitch who knows far too much about Floyd to be healthy!! A wonderful site. On his site you will see that any "1st UK presses" of this album that are not A2/B2, but have the matrices A and B, but not followed by a 2, are not genuine UK issue. Vernon speculates that they are issues from Denmark and not a true 1st UK press.
Both posters are in great shape without damage. They are on a heavier matte paper than the glossy ones issued with later copies. So many people substitute later glossy types claiming they are original. There are no pin holes, blue-tack or tape etc. A light wrinkle maybe. These posters are as good as you will find. Graded as excellent plus (Ex+).
Both sticker/postcards are present. The darker one is pristine. The lighter one has some feint creasing in one corner from being trapped in the hinge of the cover but still in great shape. These are the earliest variant, with just the word "permanent" in red type on the rear with scalloped tear lines. Later issues had brown diagonal lines on the rear plus different print.   Graded as excellent plus (Ex+) / and excellent (EX).
The original black inner sleeve is almost perfect. Hardly a crease worthy of the name. Again, it is hard to imagine a better example. Has the patent number etc in silver print as per first press and has no slits or tears at all. Grades as excellent plus (Ex+). PLAYGRADE:-                        Side one starts with a very quiet section and builds through the "heartbeat". This album starts with just a tiny amount of light background noise for maybe 5 seconds. I am being extremely picky whilst grading this album because it is SO good I have to be 100% honest and let the buyer have a FULLY detailed description. A superb opening. It goes on in the same vein, and again plays almost silently into "Time", another quiet beginning with just 2 light dust "pops" on the intro. The rest of the side plays as well as you could ever hope to find. Side two has a few seconds of the lightest background before the cash register kicks in on "Money" right at the start of the side. At the start of track 2 there are 2 very light dust "pops" and another single one about 20 seconds into the track. Apart from that I cannot really call any issues that are worthy of note. The clarity is quite stunning. Some of the sax section leap from the vinyl. I love this album and this as good a copy as I have certainly ever heard, and I have sold many solid blue triangle copies over the years. I actually wrote the following in my notebook as I listened... "Wow, a superb almost perfect copy". This album both looks and sounds the part. Grades as excellent plus (Ex+). A copy that would seriously grace ANY collection.
