78 RPM RECORD.  PRINCE'S BAND: BALLIN' THE JACK & MEADOWBROOK.  COLUMBIA A5595 (GRAND PRIZE LABEL).  RECORDED JULY 31, 1914.  THIS EXAMPLE OF EARLY RAGTIME/JAZZ IS PERFORMED BY ONE OF THE MOST RECORDED BANDS IN THE EARLY HISTORY OF THE PHONOGRAPH.  WRITTEN BY CHRIS SMITH AND JAMES REESE EUROPE (EUROPE LATER SOLD HIS INTEREST IN THE SOMG TO SMITH), "BALLIN' THE JACK" BECAME A JAZZ STANDARD THAT IS STILL PERFORMED TODAY.  RECORDED 108 YEARS AGO, IT STANDS UP AS A WELL RECORDED SYNCOPATED BAND VERSION OF WHAT WAS THEN KNOWN AS JAZZ OR RAGTIME.  "MEADOWBROOK" IS PERFORMED IN A SIMILAR VAIN.  THIS IS THE KIND OF MUSIC YOUNG BENNY GOODMAN AND OTHERS HEARD IN THE BIG PARKS WHEN MARCHING OR CONCERT BANDS WOULD PERFORM ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND INCLUDE SOME OF THE LATEST RHYTHMS IN THEIR REPERTOIRE.  THIS 12 INCH BLACK LABEL COLUMBIA IS IN "E-" TO "E" CONDITION (PLAYS MOSTLY "E") AND STARTING BID IS $10.99.  PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR MORE 1910'S-1930'S JAZZ AND MORE.
