A chance to own a super UK 1st pressing of the bands iconic title "Wish you were here". Released in 1975 to follow up the huge success of "Dark side of the moon" 2 years earlier. This is my personal favourite of theirs, and a really good copy it is.
This is the UK first pressing with the matrix numbers A1 & B3. There is no earlier. Still encased in its black shrink-wrap, opened at leading edge only.
Part of a lovely Floyd collection I am currently listing, including a superb "Dark side", solid blue triangle A2/B2 and a lovely copy of "Apples and oranges" amongst many others.... so if there is something you are looking for in particular, give me a shout.
In this sale I am including some rare and desirable extras, including the original postcard, an extra postcard, a DVD of the making of the album, an original (not one of the copies that are being sold) tour programme from 1974 to coincide with the tour to promote this album and finally a guitar tabular edition with lyrics and music from the entire album for all you budding Gilmour's out there!!
So, as already stated, the cover is enclosed in the original shrink-wrap with hype sticker attached. This obviously has kept the cover in super condition. The shrink is open to one side only, as shown in my photos. The inner sleeve is in excellent condition too, with no damage at all. The music/lyric book has been well looked after and is very clean. The DVD has only been played a couple of times and is in excellent order. The tour programme is also in great condition, and hard to find anyway, let alone in this condition. The 2 postcards are superb. Super clean and unmarked.
So to the vinyl itself, and a thorough play-grading. Matrices are A1 and B3. The earliest possible. Mothers and stampers are Side 1 2 GLA. Side 2 2 GAG. Very early pressing. Visually, there are just a very small amount of wispy hairline sleeve removal marks that have no impact on the sound quality. Why on earth these were housed in cardboard sleeves I will never know. This has been transferred to an anti-static inner sleeve many years ago for more protection. On side 1 there is a jagged mark where the postcard has stuck to the label and vinyl, either under pressure whilst packing, or being inserted while still warm from printing. This will I am sure gently clean off, and is not a damage mark. The vinyl is beautiful. A deep black lustre and just pressed gleam. I feel this has had very little play in its 48 year life.
So to my thorough play-grading, through a Linn/Naim/B&W speaker system. Side 1 starts silently. Amazing. There are 2 dust "pops" at around 1 minute in. These will most likely clean out, or be removed by the stylus on more plays. At the start of "Shine on you crazy diamond part 2, there are 6 very light ticks. The rest of the side plays with almost CD quality silence, but with the unmistakeable "warmth" of vinyl. It could be that these ticks are part of the postcard pressing into the vinyl issue? I don't know. Side 2 has 2 more light ticks on "Wish you were here" and finally there are 3 ticks on "shine on you crazy diamond" part 9. If all this sounds a bit like the album has audio issues, please bear in mind I am being super critical. This is quite seriously the best sounding copy of this album I have heard outside of a Nimbus supercut version. The sound is superb.
So a great package. A lot like this has probably never been offered for sale before and unlikely to be ever again! I offer a no quibble return and full refund is the buyer is not absolutely delighted with all of the items.
I am happy to sell worldwide, but it would be using Ebays "Global shipping programme", which is by no means cheap, but all import taxes and insurance is included in the price. Please NO bids from Russia, Belarus, Italy or Ukraine. I will cancel any bids from any of these countries. UK buyers will have postage paid by myself and it will be sent Royal Mail special next day delivery.
Please check out my feedback as a seller. It is second to none, as is my packaging. I have sold many high value vinyl's over the years and know how to package them robustly for transit near or far.
If you have any questions, or require more photos, just give me a shout please. Nothing is too much trouble to me.
Finally, good luck if you decide to make a bid. This is an amazing offering and I know the eventual winner will be delighted with what they receive. Happy bidding.
