This is the rare original deep groove pressing of Charlie Parker's “The Bird Blows the Blues” on Dial DLP 1. The spindle hole has sharp edges and no wear. The flat rim playing surface has a nice luster; occasional inaudible light scuffs; the first track on both sides has small hairlines - some of which are inaudible – though there will be an occasional tic. Original brown paper sleeve is included.   The music comes through crisply and clearly throughout.

Personnel include Howard McGhee, Wardell Gray, Dodo Marmarosa, Barney Kessel, Red Callender, and Don Lamond. The history of this record is interesting: it was released in late May 1949 and was sold only as an unofficial “limited edition” by mail order via ads in Down Beat and Metronome.   It is considered to be the first jazz LP ever issued and was sold in a plain paper sleeve (no art cover).  Probably due to its high cost ($5.00) in l947 and the fact that many of the tracks had been previously issued on 78, it sold poorly and few copies survived.  $1000.00
