This is the rare deep groove RVG-stamped (Side 1)/RVG-etched (Side 2) pressing of Sonny Rollins “Volume 2” on the West 63rd labels of Blue Note BLP 1558. The catalogue numbers in the dead wax indicate that Side 1 (BN-LP-1558-A-2) used a second master, while Side 2 (BN-LP-1558- B-1) used the original master. Other than a few inaudible scuffs, the playing surface is in excellent condition, with a beautiful luster. The laminated West 63rd cover is also strange: it has two back slicks, one overlaying the other. The back has a ½” chip at the top left corners and a ¾” stain near the left edge; ¼” wear on the top seam, at the opening; ¼” wear at the top and bottom of the spine. Personnel include Jay Jay Johnson, Thelonious Monk, Paul Chambers, and Art Blakey. $250.00.
