THIS ITEM IS: A 1975 U.S .LP BY THE BAND - ONE - IT'S RECORDED LIVE AT JOE'S FISHMARKET AND SALLON ON BACK DOOR SOUND. BAND IS GARY WILLIAMS, JIM HOMBS & ROCKY LUCIA WHO WERE THE MAGIC MUSHROOM & THE CALIFORNIA SONS (SUNS). HAS ORIGINAL SONGS + COVERS OF THE BEATLES, BEACH BOYS, DOOBIES,NEIL YOUNG + MORE. IT'S NEAR MINT WITH SHRINK STILL ON.     Over the years, there has been much confusion regarding several recording bands with different names but common members. In the center of much of this was guitarist Gary Williams. Gary kindly tried to the set the matter straight, to the best of his recollections, about the linkage to The California Sons / California Suns / Magic Mushroom. And, as Gary also pointed out…the Magic Mushrooms from Philadelphia was an entirely different group altogether!    I am not the Gary Williams who recorded “Just Cause We Got Us” b/w “I’ll Close My Eyes.” Sorry. I am, however, the Gary Williams who recorded The California Suns (Sons) records.

The California Sons (not Suns) recorded two singles for the Coastline label:
· I’m Gonna Get Some Love / (Baby Please) Dance With Me (’65)
· Cry Baby / I’m Gone (’66)

The second one, “Cry Baby” and “I’m Gone”, was released under the name The Sons. Band members were: Gary Williams - guitar and vocals; Don Weck - bass and vocals; Jim Hombs - keyboard and vocals; Steve Bingham - lead guitar; Bob Reiger - drums; and John Buell - drums on “Cry Baby” and lead vocal on “I’m Gone”.

I never really knew Bob Reiger that well. He played the session and a few gigs with us and then was replaced by John Buell before the second single. At the time, there was no Magic Mushroom. They were called The Sensations or sometimes Jamie and The Sensations. Steve, Jim, John, and Rocky Lucia all did double duty with both bands at one time and another.

In the meantime, our ethically challenged manager cut some sort of deal with Warner Brothers to release “I’m Gone” b/w “Cry Baby” under the name, Magic Mushroom. I don’t know who created the name; I saw them on TV once lip-synching my vocals. It was kind of strange!

We signed with Liberty Records in 1966 and were assigned to Imperial. Someone at Imperial changed the name to The California Suns. Only three of us played on “The Masked Grandma” / “Little Bit of Heaven” session: Steve Bingham, Don Weck, and myself. The rest were session guys: Leon Russell, Hal Blaine, and Glen Campbell, but we did all the vocals. Shortly after the release of “Grandma”, Steve Bingham and John Buell left to form Magic Mushroom, a stage band, and were replaced by Rocky Lucia (lead guitar and vocals) and Fred Sanipoli (drums).
