ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Hispavox · Le Chant du Monde (HC 40-21, Spanish pressing, mono – no stereo edition exists) features David Oistrakh's fiery reading of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 35, made in 1957 with the USSR State Symphony Orchestra and Kyrill Kondrashin. Their partnership is imbued with a sweep and ardor that it breathtaking.
Incidentally, I know of no other recording in which Oistrakh's playing has such a tangible presence – he's right there. Soviet sound engineering has often, unfairly in this listener's opinion, been cause for complaint by from Western critics, but here it is every bit equal to anything from this era, bit it from Columbia, Decca, Deusche Grammophon, or Philips.
Incidentally, there are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Manuel Vidal Pérez, printed in Spanish only. The lovely cover art is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the laminated flipback jacket is GOOD. There is edgewear, discoloration, and ringwear. However, there are no, seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and whole remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, still a quite decent copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
