ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This lovely LP from Capitol (P-8245, US pressing, rainbow label / Capitol logo at 12 o’clock, mono – no stereo edition exists) features conductor Vladimir Golschmann and The Concert Arts Orchestra in a program of American music, made in New York on 23 November 1953.

The exact contents are as follows:

Samuel Barber: Adagio for String Orchestra

David Diamond: Rounds for String Orchestra

Aaron Copland: Quiet City

> with Harry Glantz, trumpet and Albert Goltzer, English horn

Paul Creston: Two Choric Dances

Remarkable to think that all four men were still active as composers when this album was first released in 1954, and none of there fine works overly familiar either in the concert hall, and certainly not on record. Golschmann was a splendid, and very much under-rated conductor, and he does all four scores proud – these are wondefully nuanced performances.

Incidentally, there are very eloquent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The lovely front cover art is similarly uncredited.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the front laminated jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight fraying to the laminate along the open edge of the jacket and minor bumping at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
