THE BEATLES: ‘HELP’ – AN ORIGINAL 1965 UK FIRST ISSUE BLACK AND YELLOW PARLOPHONE MONO VINYL LP – PMC 1255
GUARANTEED ORIGINAL
First released by Parlophone Records UK on the 6th August 1965, this is an ORIGINAL 1965 UK FIRST ISSUE mono Vinyl LP for The Beatles album ‘HELP’
The record labels have the traditional BLACK AND YELLOW PARLOPHONE, with ‘The Gramophone Co Ltd’ label rim, ‘circled P date1965’ and ‘Made in Gt. Britain’ label text.
Both record labels are bright and clean, with no writing but a fair amount of spindle wear.
Side 1 matrix is XEX 549-2/Side XEX 550-2.
Side 1 stampers: 4/ OH, Side 2: 1/ CG. (This denotes side 2 is a pressing from the very first "mother" I believe)
There is a visible KT Tax Code on side 2 record label.
I would describe the vinyl as VG- to VG; Both surfaces of the heavy vinyl show a significant amount of use & wear, with several light to medium marks, scuffs & scratches from use. The album plays through both sides without jumping or sticking. The vinyl has not lost all of it's sheen & still shines when cleaned. The album plays well & better than it would appear, truly wonderful sound quality & robust vinyl from these early Parlophone pressings. There is some surface noise & crackles & pops here & there but it is certainly a beautiful album & to me the surface noise merely adds to the vintage for some it may spoil so be aware please before you purchase it is not CD pristine nor mint vinyl quality! Nevertheless it is a good copy that will sell for a sensible price. A mint copy of an early first pressing such as this could reach £300. As I say I would grade somewhere between VG- & VG it has been used but not abused.
The album comes in its correct and original Use Emitex Lined Printed Bag which is in very nice but used condition, no seam splits or tears, and just some light creasing.
The original Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patents Pending picture sleeve is intact with no seam splits the spine is readable & a small 1 inch tear on the rear of cover opening. There is a little creasing & light staining from normal usage & altogether it is a decent cover considering it is 50 years old next year! I would grade the cover again conservatively between VG- & VG.
So overall perhaps not a museum piece or worthy of a scrupulous collector, but nevertheless a bloody good album that plays well despite a lot of wear!
