Hey Jude, don't make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
Hey Jude, don't be afraid,
You were made to go out and get her,
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.
And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulder,
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool,
By making his world a little colder.
Hey Jude, don't let me down,
You have found her, now go and get her,
(And now and then) remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin,
You're waiting for someone to perform with,
And don't you know that it's just you, hey Jude, you'll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder.
Hey Jude, don't make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Remember to let her under your skin,
Then you'll begin to make it....
Better, better, better, better better, better......"
THE BEATLES: "Hey Jude"/ "Revoltion" UK 45 IN STEREO, RARE VERY FIRST PRESSING, 30th AUGUST, 1968.
THIS HAS THE LOWEST POSSIBLE STAMPING CODES, WHICH MAKES THE UNPLAYED, TRUE MINT CONDITION EVEN
MORE AMAZING.
The only other Mint "Hey Jude" first pressing with 'G 1/ G1' stamping codes I have only ever seen in unplayed, Mint condition, is
my own record, a green & white 1968 Parlophone Demo. I am not boasting, I rarely mention my own Beatles collection but I could
not help commenting this record was pressed directly after first the Test Pressings, then the Demo's. I have included both side's
stamping codes in individual close up pictures, the incredible condition label centre's is there to see without needing close views,
the delicate flakes of vinyl around and in the centre hole, had no chance of surviving there if the record was been on a spindle.
Being a few weeks from the 46 the Anniversary of the release of "Hey Jude", it worked out the perfect timing to list a very first
pressing in the ultimate ondition, in August, 2014.
ON THE DARK GREEN, TEXTURED APPLE LABEL: R 5772.
Please see my pictures for the astonishing condition with those micro film thin shaving's of vinyl in and around the centre hole,
best seen on the "Hey Jude" label picture.
MAITRIX: 7XCE 21185 - 1 / 7XCE 21186 - 1.
EMI STAMPING CODES: G 1 / G1
A huge selling single that naturally enough was pressed in the massive volume required and, is positively the very first record
from the first pressings made before the August, 1968 release date.
THE PUSH-OUT CENTRE HAS THE TEXT, "Sold In UK" ON THE LABELS.
I often see 1970's & 1980's Apple label re-issues of "Hey Jude" sold as 'first pressings, the lies are unbelievable but for any
authentic 60's single up to July 1969, after 1963 they ALL had the "Sold In UK" text. There are no exceptions, if you see a
copy being offered without that it will be a re-issue, usually from the 1980's singles Box set, the labels are light green as
well and they are usually in the fake Apple sleeves I will detail next.
UNSPLIT,RARE ORIGINAL 1968 GLOSSY APPLE SLEEVE WITH A WAVY TOP, 'RARE' BECAUSE THEY WERE EXCLUSIVE
TO THE "Hey Jude" SINGLE IN AUGUST 1968.
Few have survived without severe damage, rips and tears affected EMI's first ever glossy sleeve, surprisingly they were not
the standard mid-late 60's design. Please read this if you want to avoid the counterfeit Apple sleeves with a wavy top, the
original back was copied as well. Unlike all the current Parlophone 7" sleeves, they had two vertical flipback edges on both
sides, Parlophone sleeves had one vertical and one horizontal flipback edge and they were finished with rounded ends or
corners. These first ever Apple sleeves had the endings finished mitered or at 45 degrees, at the bottom and top, exclusive to
the authentic sleeves , the counterfeit sleeves have the top rounded and there is an even more definitive identification than
that. Those mitred ends were perforated on all four endings, please see my pictures, especially the one with the "Revolution"
side of the record on the back. This has the unavoidable record impression and related gentle creases, minimal storage traits
with the lightest possible rubbing to the edges and corners, as an uplayed record, this was spared the usual 60's heavy wear.
To qualify as a genuine Apple sleeve, the above simply has to apply after 46 years, even for this rare true Mint first pressing,
the fakes look like they were just made....because they are!
THE UNSPLIT, UNTORN, UNUSED SLEEVE IS IN A MINIMUM EXCELLENT+++ CONDITION.
THE LABELS ARE IMMACULATE,THERE ARE NO MARKS OR SCRATCHES, ANY ULTRA FINE HANDLING IS NEAR INVISIBLE
BUT I COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. NATURALLY THIS WILL REMAIN UNPLAYED BY MYSELF, WHILE TAKING PICTURES
EXTRA CARE WAS TAKEN, THEN MY USUAL NEW 7" SLEEVE AND ASSORTMENT OF PROTECTIVE CARD COVER AND
DOUBLE PLASTIC OUTER SLEEVES, I AM IN AWE OF BEATLES VERY FIRST PRESSINGS LOOKING EXACTLY HOW MY
ORIGINAL'S DID ON THE DAY OF ISSUE.
THE RECORD IS IN ABSOLUTELY STUNN
ING, UNPLAYED MINT CONDITION.
"Hey Jude", the Beatles first single recorded and released on their recently formed Apple label, was entirely written by Paul,
while he was driving to see and console John's son Julian. By this time in 1968, John had moved in with Yoko and he was about
to divorce his first wife, Cynthia Lennon (Powell). The song's first title and lyrics were intended to be "Hey Jules", Paul had
become very close to Julian and sympathised with the effect of the imminent divorce on him, just have a 'Beatle' as a Dad was
hard enough. Paul found it difficult to sing 'Jules' because that did not really 'roll off the tongue', 'Jude' fitted in so much
better with the phrasing, but he was not happy with some of the other lyrics, "The movement you need is on your shoulder."
When he played and sung the new song to John, Paul told him that line had to go because it sounded like he was singing about
a parrot, but John loved it and insisted it stayed as it was. At first the lyrics sounded to John like the song was written about
him not Julian, the following year Lennon would write a song with the title the same as the opening line from the fourth verse,
after the initial "Hey Jude" was ; "Don't let me down." The "White Album" recording sessions had begun in May 1968 and they
were well underway, after Paul and John finished the song, serious rehearsals took place the 29th & 30th July in Abbey Road.
They worked solidly on "Hey Jude" and 23 takes later, George Martin made a reduction mix down, which became 'Take 25,' but
this was not intended as the finished item just yet because an orchestra had been booked in advance. On the 1st August, they
moved into Trident Studios to eventually complete the song, many of the out-takes exist but it would take too long to elaborate
on the sheer scale the recording of "Hey Jude" required.
Releasing "Hey Jude" as a single was always the intention, it was never considered for inclusion on the "White Album", which
makes the length of the track even more extraordinary. "Hey Jude" had a 7:11 minutes duration and although a few examples
of songs exceeding the standard 45's approximate three minutes, once again, the Beatles released the longest single ever to
reach No.1. A massive selling record worldwide and only second only to the 1963 "I Want to Hold Your Hand" as the Beatles'
biggest ever selling global single, "She Loves You" was the UK biggest selling Beatles single.
Only a band brimming with talent could have produced a B-side of such magnitude as "Revolution", John recorded the original
version, later re-titled as "Revolution 1", a slow song with experimental music and sound effects, plus spoken additions that
formed an ending piece. The end section just grew and grew, until John decided to take the now six minutes long final section
and use it to form the basis for "Revolution 9". Lennon's answer to the growing call from the underground for a revolution to
overthrow world government's and the establishment was there to hear in the lyrics, being John Lennon he was really keen to
release "Revolution 1" as the A-side of the following Beatles single. Now found opening Side 4 of the "White Album" because
the others felt it was too slow for a single. The original slow version had Lennon's acoustic guitar as the basis,John re-thought
the song and increased the tempo, they played it differently with extremely heavy electric guitars and the Beatles spent a long
time perfecting and recording the rhythm section alone. They produced a really sensational faster version, the sheer impact I
just heard from the once only played side was unbelievable from this first pressing, it would indeed have made a great A-side.
"Hey Jude" had emerged a few weeks later and for all the tensions simmering during the recording of the "White Album", the
Beatles always made their decisions with the views of the band's majority over ruling the individuals Besides "Hey Jude" was
something something very special and John Lennon was just as enthusiastic about Paul's song as his own compositions.
So the first Beatles record to appear on the Apple Records label was phenomenal in terms of commercial success, unfortunately
figures for the UK sales of "Hey Jude are contradictory, but it spent four months in the charts, a conservative figure would be a
minimum of a million sold in '68. Figures for America are readily available though, five months after the September,1968 issue,
3.75 million copies of "Hey Jude" were sold. Bringing the record up to today, five million copies have been sold in the USA and it
was also the largest selling debut release for a new record label ever known. Worldwide in 1968 "Hey Jude sold well over eight
million copies and was a chart topper in eleven different countries.
In spite of all those massive numbers made in 1968, my policy of only selling the Beatles UK 45's in top condition, has until now
only produced four "Hey Jude" 45's in our 13 years of trading on ebay. Of course the sheer age of the original's plays a part, but
the intro for "Hey Jude" is almost acapella, the drums do not come in until well into the song. That leaves the vast majority with
the most terrible noise for the opening minutes, in fact for the normal running length of the average single. That is something I
never personally want to hear, the deep scratches and marks that go with "Hey Jude" become just as visually offensive though.
To have just bought a Near Mint/Mint record is a combination of persistence and refusal to settle for second best, I buy all the
records I sell as if they were for me personally, as a discerning collector, that standard is pretty high! The actual production of
a huge selling record that ran into at least a million, had to have records made at the beginning of the pressing and the end of
the sequence, I have seen the 'mother' digits as high as eight, this record's 'G 1 /G 1' is just incredible for this condition.
EMI even had to turn to outside contracting, Decca, Phillips and Pye were needed to produce such a vast volume of records for
UK record shops. This particular record was positively pressed by EMI and from the pre-release first pressings/ first editions,
As I commented earlier,I will re-emphasise that the bountiful amount of 'mothers' required to press from, were all made at the
same time, before the pressing even began, this was hardly an obscure band and so anticipating needing that many records was
planned out well in advance. At least three 'mothers' alone were needed to send to Decca, Phillips and Pye's pressing plants, so
hard today to gauge the scale of the whole operation needed to meet the demand. Beatles singles to me are the greatest records
ever made, the excitement of waiting for their release never has and will leave me, or the others who experienced those amazing
eight years. The "Hey Jude" side is the dark green colour,"Sold in The UK" is printed across both side's solid centres, plus this
has the original way top Apple sleeve, not those nasty fakes circulating on ebay now, the repro's went too far 'over the top, for
even resembling the originals. They made them so ridiculously glossy, even the inside's are glossy and not the matt white of the
1968 originals. Plus check out the endings of the flipback edges on one side on the fakes, some are finished with a straight cut,
but originals have a serrated, almost perforated finish, please see my pictures. This is unsplit and in superb condition, so what
if there are a few minor record impression light creases, after 45 years of holding this heavyweight record? Surely that's better
than those fakes with an unnatural 'glossy newness' that could not have possibly remained untouched by time and the purpose
the sleeves were made for.

R & M RECORDS.
My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller. Over twenty years ago now we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;
EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A 'NO ARGUMENT' MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY
FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK.
THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE
AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL

OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL. EVEN THEN WE STILL TAKE FULL RESPONSIBITY FOR A RECORD

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged. Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46.
For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 12 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.
