As the vinyl resurgence continues (and we hope it never stops), titles from the vaults are seeing the light of day for their first-ever appearances on wax. The soundtrack to the much loved Coen Brothers film, ‘The Big Lebowski,’ was only released on CD in its initial life. Now, 16 years later, that collection will finally hit turntables.
The soundtrack remains an interesting collection of songs, hitting on everyone from Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello to Captain Beefheart, with stops for Yma Sumac and Moondog along the way.
One of the famous scenes in the film featured Jeff Bridges, a.k.a. the Dude, expressing his hatred of the Eagles — so on the soundtrack, we get the Gipsy Kings’ own distinct take on the Eagles‘ ‘Hotel California.’ Other tracks by Henry Mancini, Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, and Townes Van Zandt’s cover of the Rolling Stones classic ‘Dead Flowers,’ are featured here as well.
The standard black edition of the vinyl hit record stores Nov. 24 — but because everyone loves Record Store Day Black Friday, Universal Music issued the soundtrack on limited-edition ‘White Russian’ wax specifically for the holiday.
