ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP – an unplayed copy, opened only to verify the label – from RCA (LM-2115, US pressing, white top dog label, mono, original inner sleeve included) features Jascha Heifetz's commanding renditions of Bach's Sonata No. 2 for Solo Violin in A minor BWV 1002 and his Partita No. 3 for Solo Violin in E Major BWV 11006, recorded at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood, California in October 1952.
From a technical standpoint, Heifetz is well-nigh flawless and although some continue to suggest that Heifetz was a cold or even a shallow musician, there is more than note-perfect spinning here and Heifetz's organizational powers and unflagging concentration, as well as the great purity of his playing, yield high dividends here and even if he is not your first choice, his performances deserve to be heard. There is no finer pressing than this early German red/silver RCA issue.
Incidentally, there are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only, by Alfred Frankenstein, Music and Art Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle. The striking cover design is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears almost as new – overall, an outstanding collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a genuinely unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.
