Another from my personal collection. Originally purchased from new in 1970! A rare 1970 1st UK pressing of Family's album release 47 years old, rare, in that this is complete with the original large and full sized poster, and is probably the best sounding copy of this album that I have ever heard! (Rarely Seen like this) Note: The early Reprise vinyls I have found to be one of the most difficult pressings to get great audio quality on. This copy is truly exceptional. I can't emphasise enough, that the audio separation and clarity is fantastic and with a real deep bass feel can not be found like this on any other format in my opinion.  This is the earliest possible 1st UK pressing with the original 1st issues 'Un-laminated gate fold cover!' and the 1st issue Reprise Large Steamboat labels are featured on the vinyl! Truly vibrant clear audio (louder cut) than later pressings! Very rare to find like this and complete!

A Song for Me is the third album by the British progressive rock band Family, released on 23 January 1970 on Reprise Records.

The album was recorded late 1969 in Olympic Studios in London.

It was their first album with new members John Weider on bass and Poli Palmer on keyboards, flute and vibraphone.

The past several months had been full of setbacks for Family.

Rick Grech left for Blind Faith, Jim King was forced to leave for getting too deep into drug addiction, and their first U.S. tour proved to be a disaster.

Although many of the songs had been written with King's saxophone in mind, Charlie Whitney and Roger Chapman were able to rework them with Palmer's instruments, and Palmer quickly made himself integral to Family's sound.

Because some of these songs had been debuted in live performances in the previous year, many Family fans found themselves getting accommodated to arrangements that sounded radically different from what they expected.

Much of A Song for Me shows Family exploring various popular forms, from jazz and blues to folk and country.

Side one
1. "Drowned in Wine" 4:08
2. "Some Poor Soul" 2:44
3. "Love Is a Sleeper" 4:00
4. "Stop for the Traffic - Through the Heart of Me" 2:09
5. "Wheels" (Whitney, Chapman, Ric Grech) 4:38

Side two
1. "Song for Sinking Lovers" 4:04
2. "Hey – Let It Rock" 1:02
3. "The Cat and the Rat" 2:30
4. "93's O.K. J" (instrumental; Whitney, John Weider) 3:57
5. "A Song for Me" (Whitney, Chapman, Weider, Rob Townsend)

The Matrix (Earlist for this UK pressing)
Side 1 ''RSLP 9001 A-2''
Side 2 ''RSLP 9001 B-2''

Side 2 ''A H'' ''1'' (Mega early "1" to "1"  Mother Stampers)

The Vinyl
On visual inspection this vinyl looks absolutely superbe , almost like new in my opinion! The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable! This is the original heavier thicker type of vinyl with deeper grooves only found on these original earliest pressings! They are also more robust than later pressings which were more flimsier! Initial inspection I can barely see a blemish at all on the playing surface!  Only in strong light only could possibly any very few light whispy surface marks be seen but to be honest I can't see any, at least no audio sounding marks or scratches that I heard! Extremely rare to ever find like this after 47 years!

The Audio Quality
I have played this through track for track as usual on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is truly stunning throughout! One of the best sounding copies that I have ever heard! Very, very clear and vibrant throughout, without distortion at all! This plays with (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed WHAT SO EVER!!(No loud constant clicks or pops, and no skips or jumps!) In fact this has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 47 years. You will find it very hard to get a better sounding copy in my opinion. The best looking and sounding vinyl of this album that I have ever heard! Audio graded at Very Near as Mint in my opinion!

Hear the complete recording of tyhis album in the player above!

Please note, I always add this disclamer!
Please allow for the odd light static /tick perhapes heard during the odd quiet place or in between tracks but nothing consistant throughout the audio!
Please remember that this is a genuine 47 year old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 47 year old system! I would class myself as highly critacle! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! Audio is graded at the top! You will find the audio quality on this vinyl very hard to surpass! Audio graded at least Near as Mint in my opinion!

Please note! This has been stored in a case for at least 47 years! Any static crackle that might be heard during some quiet parts could be minimised by constant cleaning before each play in my experiance!  A build up of dust and dirt that has accumilated over the years from the vinyl being stored laying dormant causes most of this problem so please allow for some light static  I would class myself as highly critical ! Please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!

The Labels
These feature the 1st issue Reprise 'Large Steamboat labels (only 1st press) in absolutely superbe condition! Amazingly I find it hard to see any real nasty spidering even when a angled to the light, perhapes very , very feint tiny spider trails but you have to look very hard to notice any.  There is little if no spindleware the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve
This is a plain white poly lined sleeve patented. No splits or tears light fading/browning with age only. This is the original!

The Cover
This is the original 1st issue un-laminated gate fold cover (only 1st press)  Being primarily black in color these are so hard to keep in good condition. There are (no) splits or tares! There is very minimal light thumb creasings in the cover worth to mention only, you would have to look for to really notice in my opinion! Any other marks/scuff/crease lines at the edges, again you have to look for to notice in my opinion.Light edge rubbing wear with age and very light ring wear/rubbing/fading and the rear. All text is readable.   47 years old original!  This cover must grade excellent in my opinion!

The Original Lyric Sleeve
Very rarely seen complete with the lyric sleeve inner! Very light creasings/wear with age only.  This is original.

An Audio Archive Copy! 47 Years Old Like This! Final Upgrade!
