"BEFORE THEY MAKE ME RUN" (Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Worked the bars and sideshows, along the twilight zone,
Only a crowd can make you feel so alone,
  And it really hit home.
Booze and pills and powders, you can choose your medicine,
Well, here's another goodbye to another good friend.

After all is said and done,
Gotta move while it's still fun,
Let me walk before they make me run,
After all is said and done,
I gotta move, it's still fun,
I'm gonna walk before they make me run.

Watched the tail lights fading, there ain't a dry eye in the house,
  They're laughing and singing,
Started dancing and drinking as I left town.
Gonna find my way to heaven, 'cause I did my time in hell,
I wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

After all is said and done,
I gotta move, I had my fun,
Let us walk before they make me run.

After all is said and done,
I did alright, I had my fun,
I will walk before they make me run.
ROLLING STONES: "Some Girls" LP. VERY FIRST UK PRESSING, 14th JUNE, 1978.
This first pressing of "Some Girls" has so much detail, I'm not sure where to start!  In 1978, the Rolling Stones had signed with
EMI to press and distribute their "Rolling Stones Records" yellow & black label records.  They now had EMI to also promote the
"Some Girls" LP, the first album pressed by EMI, I have sold a rare Press Pack version and that included glossy photo's with EMI
adding their company name to the Promo photo's.  This first pressing has another glossy photo in the cover, I have not seen this
before, a superb picture taken of the band performing live in the recording studio.  EMI rarely made make Promo albums, but they
were some  in the late 1970's, the occasional Demo gold stamped text was placed on the cover, but never the labels. This album
does not have any form of Promo stamping's or stickers, I'm sure the photo was slipped into the cover and sent to perhaps a
reviewer who could use it to illustrate his review. The picture is worthy of gracing an LP cover because they are not just posing,
the guitars and mic's have the leads plugged in. I have found several examples of Promo photo's in LP covers, I recently sold a
CBS presed UK Neil Young album that was clearly stamped as a Promo and it had one black and white photo of Neil Young and
  his guitar.
TOP QUALITY, EXCLUSIVE PROMO BLACK & WHITE GLOSSY PHOTO OF THE ROLLING STONES, MEASURING 10" x 8."
THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER HAS THIS TEXT PRINTED IN BLACK UNDER THE STONES' MOUTH & TONGUE LOGO: Rolling Stones Records distributed by EMI Records
PLEASE SEE MY PICTURES FOR HOW STUNNING THIS IS, TOTALLY UNAGED WITHOUT ANY CREASES AND IT HAS
CLEARLY NEVER LEFT THE COVER, IN MINT CONDITION.

TEXTURED ROLLING STONES LABEL: CUN 39108.
The first UK Rolling Stones album released with the new 'CUN' prefix on their yellow 'Rolling Stones Records' label, in America
'COC' was continued for "Some Girls," but the controversial matters affecting the first pressings were the same.

MAITRIX: 39108  A - 3U  / 39108  B - 3U
The above was hand scribed and indexed for the UK very first pressings, in fact, that becomes an identification for first pressings,
but not needed due to the controversial withdrawn artwork.

FIRST ISSUES WERE PRESSED BY EMI, THE STAMPING CODES ARE IN THE USUAL POSITION; RM 2  / RD 2
'Sterling' is also stamped in the run-out grooves of the first editions, there from when the album was mastered in New York's
'Sterling Sound' Studio. Their sound engineer / vinyl cutter's initials are hand scribed next to the 'Sterling' logo, 'TJ', which
makes the stunning sound on the first issues the work of Ted Jensen.

VERY FIRST 'Garrod & Lofthouse' PRINTED FRONT DIE -CUT COVER, WITH 20 WOMEN'S FACE SHAPES TO FIT
UNDER THE WIGS.
There are 5 'wig' outlines in a row on 4 colour bands, all 20 machine cut shapes are different, through them the custom printed
inner sleeve, 40 various faces can be seen.  The inner sleeve is reversible with one side in black and white and the other has
red (or deep pink), green, blue & yellow for the lips, hair, a dress and a dog.  Both sides includes the Rolling Stones cunningly
mingled with the ladies, the artwork was only on first edition inner sleeves, it was the cause of the controversy and an enforced
withdrawal of the artwork and a swiftly following replacement design. I will detail this properly below, if the lyrics on certain
tracks was not enough!  No way could I type those on an ebay description, Mick and Keith managed to offend several feminist
organisations, but there was no censorship to the tracks on the album, just as well there was not a lyric insert!

STRICTLY VERY FIRST ISSUE, ONLY THICK CARDBOARD INNER SLEEVE WITH THE ABOVE DESCRIBED ARTWORK.
UNUSED, UNFADED, UNCREASED AND UNSPLIT, THE TOP OPENING HAS CRISP SHARP EDGES, IN MINT CONDITION.

THE COVER WAS NEVER USED AND SUPERBLY STORED, WITH ALL 20 DIE CUT SHAPES IN PERFECT CONDITION.
Identifying first edition covers involves the 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printing credit, the most obvious feature is the very striking
lovely pastel tones on the front's green, yellow, blue and pink four colour bands.  Assuming the matt finished cover is not in
the usual very badly worn and faded state with ring wear occupying more space than the artwork.   Also the cover's inside is a
pure white colour, not the natural cardboard colour, I have shown a picture of the front of the cover without the inner sleeve
inside, you can see this is still as pure white as the day it was made an astonishing 39 years ago, or at least it's astonishing
to me, because I remember buying my first issue copy like it was yesterday.  All to mention for grading purposes, is only the
common standing trait of absolutely minimal standing pressure on the right side corners, I hastily add they are not worn and
quite honestly, how they were first seen in 1978, which also serves to describe up this whole cover, inner sleeve and record.
How most were distributed to record shops in 1978  and far worse, not just to "Some Girls", by removing so much cardboard
with a heavy record inside placed extra stress onto the corners, bottom edges and of course the spine and from very recent
years, the same is true for the die-cut covers like the Who's "Odds & Sods" and Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti."  Just the
packaging to deliver the albums to record shops had an effect, but I will include any other minor storage in the grading, but I
am taking that back to before the albums left the pressing plant!    Natural events and certainly not a big issue, I am not in
the habit of making excuses, just telling it how these items were first seen and bought when released, you can see the same
effect through shrink wrapped sealed cover on areas near the corners.  Then I do not need to make excuses for the condition's
I sell, an unplayed record completely dispenses with wear from use and demands common sense to prevail, however I always
grade accordingly, I must insist on saying first how outstanding and beautiful this first edition cover actually is.  The spine
has perfectly clear titles and catalogue numbers, there is no rubbing or loss of any of the black printing, with just a few light
ripples and a couple of tiny paper edge lines, that really is exceptional for this cover.
THE COVER IS IN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING MINT- CONDITION.

THE TEXTURED LABELS ARE LIKE BRAND NEW, WITHOUT A SOLITARY SPINDLE ALIGNMENT TRACE ON EITHER SIDE.
THE RECORD IS ALSO GLEAMING AWAY LIKE IT WAS JUST PRESSED WITHOUT ANY MARKS, SCUFFS OR SCRATCHES,
ANY FACTORY HANDLING IS NEAR INVISIBLE. THE RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED / MINT CONDITION.

All Songs Written By Mick Jagger / Keith Richards, Except "Just My Imagination"
Recorded October - December 1977  &  January -  March 1978, At EMI Pathé Marconi Studios, Paris.
Produced By The Glimmer Twins. Locating a Mint UK first pressing of "Some Girls" with a perfect cover and a withdrawn uncensored inner sleeve has never been
easy, there are plenty of originals around but the album was subjected to very heavy use. No wonder there was great attention on
the re-mastered vinyl edition, record companies always respond to demand and masterpieces like this will always be re-pressed.
In 1978, the Rolling Stones were shaking off cobwebs and getting back into rock, the album was played.....and played, the surest
signs of a great album!   Not good news for collector's today because that left them overplayed and scratched with the covers and
the inner's just as heavily used, most top artists were stung into action by the arrival of Punk music, they had being taunted as
'dinosaurs' who were about to be made extinct.  It was ironic when the Stones had more brushes with the establishment than any
other band, Keith Richards was not quite ready to hang up his guitar, he was rather busy being arrested and inside court rooms.
This was the period when Keith Richards was arrested and busted for heroin possession in Toronto, that was in 1977 and he was
facing a long prison sentence.  Keith had an addiction but he was not a criminal in the sense junkies resort to robbery and crime
to fund their habits, so he got away with performing a concert in aid of 'The Canadian National Institute For The Blind.' He also
managed to end his heroin habit and to celebrate, he returned to being "Richards" for the first time since the early 60's when he
dropped the 's.'

With Ronnie Wood now a fully fledged member of the band, "Some Girls" benefitted from a very special musical chemistry between
Keith and Ronnie and with Mick's own guitar playing so improved, the album not only had Ronnie for the first time, they had three
guitarists.  If anything"Some Girls" was very much a guitar orientated album and for the first time in the decade, there was not a
dozen or more guest musicians recording the tracks, this was a 'real' Rolling Stones album.  Ian Stewart had always been involved
if only as the road manager, although he's often credited for playing the piano, he most certainly did not.  That role was filled
by former Small Faces, Ian McLagan, more recently from Ronnie's time in the Faces with Rod Stewart, Ian McLagan's keyboards
were vested in pure r&b and he was just perfect for the feel of the album. The only other additions were Sugar Blue's harmonica,
the ever present Mel Collins blowing a sax and ex Free & Bad Company's drummer, Simon Kirke, playing the congas.   With Keith
available again, they started recording "Some Girls" in October 1977 and right up to the Christmas period and started again in the
New Year of 1978 .  "Rolling Stones Records" were pressed and distributed by EMI in Britain now, but they kept their contract
Warner Brothers in America only, EMI's French connection in Paris gave them a recording venue at Pathé Marconi Studios, Paris,
it went so well there the Stones returned again and again, so this was really a new lease of life, especially for Keith!  I will be
leaving this as an unplayed record due to the extreme rarity of a first pressing in the ultimate condition, being mastered in the
'Sterling Sound' New York studio and pressed by EMI, this was a mighty relief after some below average pressings for the Stones
own label. It also means I do not need to check the sound, an EMI unplayed first pressing will be sheer perfection, so I can move
onto the controversy over the artwork, a big deal at the time but quite tame thirty nine years later.

Since their first LP in 1964, Rolling Sones albums and controversy seem to have gone together, the debut LP had a demo version
of "Tell Me" and it had to be amended. Next came the second album with Andrew Oldham's text on the back telling fans without any
money, in order to buy the album they were holding and reading in a record shop, to find a blind man, kick him in the head, steal
his wallet and use the money to buy the Stones new album.  Protest from as high as the government caused the cover's text to be
re-written & re-printed, there are even covers with the original back panels pasted over with the revised text.  Even though they
had their own label in the 1970's decade, nothing had really changed!   The back cover has the track listing with full musician
credits among 1950's American adverts for bras, harmless stuff, it was the front cover that forced a withdrawal of the original
artwork showing through the die-cut shapes of ladies wigs.  The front used a similar 1960's advert to the back cover, brilliant
artwork designed by Peter Corriston, with the twenty faces under the various wig styles, cut out for the inner sleeve's pictures
to fill the faces, with iconic female film & T.V. personalities to appear under the wigs. On one side of the inner sleeve has the
extra colour I detailed above, showing pictures of the Stones wearing ladies make-up and in drag, it was not the Stones in drag
that caused the artwork to be withdrawn and replaced, but the iconic women who objected to their pictures appearing on the cover.
Lucille Ball, Ursilla Andress, Farrah Fawcett, Liza Minnelli on behalf of her mother Judy Garland & the estate of Marilyn Monroe,
threatened to take legal action, so several attempts to appease the angry women, one included masks printed over two of their
faces, who lacked a sense of humour or sense of pride to appear on a Stones cover!  Lucille Ball & Ursilla Andress were still not
accepting the masks and a complete withdrawal was the only solution, the inner sleeves with the masks are the second printed, this
is the very first with the original artwork as it first appeared in Britain and America and Britain , 'the first of the first.'  In the end
there were just colour blocks printed in some of the windows, I know it all sounds very silly now but all that certainly helps to
identify a first printed and therefore first pressing of "Some Girls," because the changed artwork happened as soon as the album
was released.  Just out of interest, when the 2012 re-mastered version was issued on vinyl, the die-cut cover was replicated and
so was the inner sleeve, even all those years later, the replacement censored colour blocks artwork was re-used.  Back in 1978,
several other changes were made to the printing, while the inner sleeve and the main cover had a make over, the thickness of the
cardboard itself shrank to being flimsy and limp, those pastel colours tones on the four banded lines of the wigs were re-printed
with different colour tones . In fact, I would go as far to say there are several versions of the colour bands so radically different,
unless you saw the first edition you will be amazed by how stunning the cover looked when first released in the UK and the USA.
Due to damage and wear, sellers switch these first editions for later covers and they are light years apart, text is useless for
colour tones, the details of a very first UK cover etc. are best viewed in my pictures. Which is the main reason I have to count
to ten before grading such a fantastic condition very first issue cover, the colours are still precisely how they looked 39 years
ago.  The same applies to the equally unworn and unfaded "Some Girls" inner sleeve that first caused so much trouble, with all
that, I will end this with a reminder this does very much concern a very rare unplayed first pressing record and the music on the
album is like the Stones' second UK album, above and beyond such matters. Placing a minus on a Mint grading of the cover is plain
crazy, if an equally stunning condition, genuine UK 1978 first edition cover than this exists anywhere in the world, I would love
  to see it!

R & M RECORDS.

My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller.  Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;

FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK.
THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE
AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged.  Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46.  A temporary reduction this week means we can
now post LP's for £5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to £7?

For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.

IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE
SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
