Somehow, this album has been misclassified, and has built a sizable reputation as a pop/psych LP, often compared to July, or The pretty Things. This is a considerable misconception. "Supernatural Fairy Tales" is NOT a pop album, though it does contain psych influences, as well as one all-out psychedelic cut, in the title track. Rather, this is mostly fairly heavy hard rock, with a few blues numbers here and there. The album definitely sounds ahead of it's time for 1967. True, Hendrix was making considerable waves with a similar product, but also with a very distinctive sound that Art just didn't possess. By the time they morphed into Spooky Tooth, the times had caught up to them, and they were substantially more successful.
