Meddle is the sixth studio album by English progressive rock group Pink Floyd, released on 31 October 1971 by Harvest Records.

It was produced between the band's touring commitments, from January to August 1971.

The album was recorded at a series of locations around London, including Abbey Road Studios and Morgan Studios.

With no material to work with and no clear idea of the album's direction, the group devised a series of novel experiments which eventually inspired the album's signature track, "Echoes".

Although the band's later albums would be unified by a central theme with lyrics written entirely by Roger Waters, Meddle was a group effort with lyrical contributions from each member, and is considered a transitional album between the Syd Barrett-influenced group of the late 1960s and the emerging Pink Floyd.

The cover has been explained by its creator, Storm Thorgerson, to be an ear underwater.

As with several previous albums designed by Hipgnosis, though, Thorgerson was unhappy with the final result.

The album was well-received by music critics upon its release, and was commercially successful in the United Kingdom, but lackluster publicity on the part of their United States-based label led to poor sales there upon initial release.

Returning from a series of tours across America and England in support of Atom Heart Mother, at the start of 1971 Pink Floyd commenced work on new material at Abbey Road Studios in London.

At the time, Abbey Road was equipped only with eight-track multitrack recording facilities, which the band found insufficient for the increasing technical demands of their project.

They transferred their best efforts, including the opening of what became "Echoes", to 16-track tape at smaller studios in London (namely AIR, and Morgan in West Hampstead) and resumed work with the advantage of more flexible recording equipment.

Engineers John Leckie and Peter Bown recorded the main Abbey Road and AIR sessions, while for minor work at Morgan, Rob Black and Roger Quested handled the engineering duties.

The labels
The original 1st UK pressing label variation for this album Green Harvest labels with "The Gramophone Co......" rim text, are in awesome condition! (These look superb in my opinion) Minimal spider marks/trails seen when angled to thev light, little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round. This has only ever been played a minimal amount of times only from new when I initially purchased it and one time to play grade for this listing. So rare  for an album that is over 49 years old! Impossible to find like this! very very collectable! Early  UK pressings very rare in this condition!

The vinyl
The vinyl is absolutely superb! On initial visual inspection this looks superb and still retains its sheen from new! (please note this vinyl has only ever been  played a few times by me personally and I originally played this to record to tape! In the last 49 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ring ware and damage. This is how I have always stored my records, and of course I played this again to play grade at very loud volume on a top system!  In fact even when I look at the playing surface angled to a strong light I find it hard notice any real surface marks or scratches. Any marks that could possible be seen when angled in strong light would be light whyspy surface sleeve removal type only.

The Audio Quality
It is noted that this album features many very quiet places throughout and it is very very dificult to find a vinyl that produces lovely playback.
I have played this through track for track prior to listing at very very loud volume on a top system! WOW!, the moment the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious this vinyl has been carefully looked after!  The audio quality is as you would expect when purchased new, superbe, TOP, TOP, TOP! cristal clear and extremely vibrant through out in fact this plays truly superb.  Any interference noted was very minor and isolated in the form of minor static/ticks/crackle but nothing consistant throughout the audio in fact I only really noted two light pops at the outro to last track side two. This is probably one of the best overall sounding copies that I have heard.
This is without a dought one of the best copies that I have ever heard of this variation! Just listen to the bass lines very vibrant and real clarity very nice to hear like this and more importantly listen to how quiet it is in between tracks!  This played through superb unbelievable audio seperation, that I haven't heard like this before and stunning bassey feel throughout! One of the most vibrant sounding audio copies that I have heard and early pressing makes all the difference! Even in between tracks this was generally lovely and quiet which is rare to find especially with this album. This vinyl has been stored separately from the cover in a poly sleeve for over 45 years! This is the way I always  have stores my records!  Even in between tracks this is very quiet!   I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl   by this awesome rock band ''Pink Floyd'' and so hard to find tlike this! Please check my completed listings of records that I have sold of this quality and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio  at least near mint through out in my opinion

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! Allowances must be made for these early seventies genesis pressings. Please allow for the odd isolated static/ crackle/tick/light clicks that may be heard in quiet places or in between tracks, certainly not consistent throughout the audio. This is a genuine 49 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 48 year old system! Genuinly only barely ever played!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 48 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recommended ! This would reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original Harvest advertizing serpier record sleeve, clean and straight.  No splits or tears, light creasing fading yellowing with age only.

The Cover
The original 1st issue fully textured gatefold Garrod & Lofthouse ltd cover. Note These covers are very difficult to keep in good condition and being un laminated and flimsy by nature very prone to rubbing wear. Note:  There are (no) edge splits or tears and amazingly no real nasty creases worth to note.   The spine is generally lovely and  square with very slight/minor, light rubbing and only is noticed if looked for only in my opinion but truly exceptional indeed. Light rubbing marks is noted at the rear top left hand corner from a sticker removal but again only noticed if looked for in my opinion..  A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!  No nasty rubbing or ring wear on the front or rear in fact amazingly no nasty creases worth to mention. Any other rubbing to mention is on the edges and at the spine edges but not noticed unless looked for in my opinion.    Must be at least Better than Excellent to excellent plus in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 48 years old!
