There's little point introducing this as a "lost classic" or "underrated gem" anymore, as any fan of 60s/70s heavy psych who has access to the internet has most likely heard of this album by now, and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?  Bands like Pentagram and the newly formed Captain Crimson have already payed tribute to these guys, and they're practically a staple in most psych rock blogs.  There's even the Captain Beyond Zen blog, for goodness sakes!  So it's likely that my 5-star review won't contain anything that hasn't been said before, but I'll say it anyway; this is easily one of the best heavy psych releases of all time.  Why do I think it's so great?  Well, it's not just the brilliant riffs, dreamy vocals and sci-fi-ish themes, but it's the individuality the album has.  Breaking up songs into bits was hardly a new concept, but it lends the album it's own identity among other psych bands.  "Dancing Madly Backwards" is somewhat legendary now, and with it's proggy riffing and mesmerising vocals, it's positively hypnotic.  "Armworth" and "Myopic Void" continue this, and tie in with the first song too.  "Mesmerisation Eclipse" has one of my favourite hard rock riffs ever, and is brilliantly heavy and groovy.  "Raging River of Fear" has a great psych riff as well.  "Thousand Days of Yesterdays" & "Frozen Over", combining 3 songs again, is another dreamy composite classic, and finally we have the ending compendium of "I Can't Feel Nothin'", which has an excellent vocal performance from former DP alumnus Lee Dorman, and is another hard prog great.  Overall, this is a great album through and through, but chances are you already knew that.  If not, don't hesitate to get your hands on it ASAP.  Stoner-psych classic.
