Pete Brown is an English poet who is probably best known in the music world for his work with Cream. In 1968 he formed Pete Brown & His Battered Ornaments which released their quite bizarre debut album in 1969. The band went on to release another album called Mantlepiece later in the same year with their name shortened to The Battered Ornaments.

This first album of theirs is a true diverse mix of different styles ranging from psychedelia to experimental rock and from blues to jazzy stuff. You might expect this kind of album to be an inconsistent totality but that's not the case here. These eight tracks are all more or less great.

A Meal You Can Shake Hands With in the Dark is a pretty lengthy album but it won't bore you because of the aforementioned diversity of the material. I can recommend this LP for anyone interested in underground rock music of the late 1960's. WHY NOT CHECK OUT MY EBAY STORE -
