WILLY KELLY LP - How Did I Ever Get Like This? Description

Wonderous Music WM-1001 stereo 12" LP record album. Released 1985. A folk/rock album written and performed by Willy Kelly who sounds amazingly like Stephen Stills to my ears. A very enjoyable record. Condition: Record is VG++. Cover is close to NM (sw). Comments: (Willy tells us:) I started playing in bands in upstate NY. By the age 16, I was taking gigs and chasing the dream of playing the blues. At that time there wasn't a lot of blues clubs around the Adirondacks. Some of the guys from my school were starting a "50's" band and asked me to join. "Real Live Jive" was a fun mix of Rock & Roll, football players, and adolescent energy. There were a few musician's thrown in for good measure! ... After a fairly unsuccessful stint as a folk-singer, I landed on Islesboro. I think a piece of me will always be on that island. I tried to go back to NY. but couldn't stay away from Maine. Eventually a country-rock band we had called, "Tulsa" played the first unofficial "Coaches Picnic". "Blue Northern" was formed in early 1977 and played all around the state. We still managed to stay pretty close to Islesboro. In May of 1978 Jud Strunk hired me to play Bass Guitar. I was a broken-hearted guitar player with no cash. Alden Clark lent me his old Hagstrom Bass, we rehearsed for three days, and we loaded into the limousine... "You gotta love it!" ... As so many things in my life the idea of "The Willy Kelly Band" started out on the island. It was actually Glen's idea. We were going to have a "Blues" Band with Jeffery. Our trouble was we kept expanding what our idea of blues music was. For a while I was using my "Gold Top" guitar and we were playing pretty straight ahead. Then I went with Glen to Bangor one day to see Cary Comer and came home with a MIDI guitar. Some nights I played more "colors" than notes.
