Offered is a rare Original Mono Pressing of Cal Tjader Mambo Quintet on Fantasy Records, and pressed on Red Translucent Vinyl.

This is particular copy has label information that is quite unique, in two respects:
 
1)  The label title says "Cal Tjader" on one line, and "Mambo Quintet" on the line directly below.  This is repeated on both sides.  The other original Red Vinyl 1956 copies say "Cal Tjader Quintet" on one line with no mention of "Mambo". 

2)  The catalog number on this copy is also unique. To the right on the spindle hole, it is "3-242" (on both sides).  On the other original Red Vinyl 1956 copies, the catalog number is either "3-232" or "3232".  Interestingly, the front cover number of 3232 is the same as on this cover.

The Fantasy Records label did produce an album with the catalog number 3-242, however it is by Les Strand (Plays Jazz Classics on the Baldwin Organ) - clearly not our offered Cal Tjader LP.

The number (3-242) might qualify this copy as a misprint, perhaps an "error", or even a label variation.

We were unable to find any internet information on other copies of this pressing, making  "Cal Tjader Mambo Quintet"  certainly unique.

THE VINYL

VG+ :  The LP surfaces retain much of their original gloss, with a moderate amount of spindlewear evident (please see the close-up photos of the labels in our gallery). 

Bright, undamaged, Red and Gold Fantasy Labels.  
 
Present on both sides are some light marks, including sleevewear and hairlines that produce some occasional background noise.
 
There are no deep marks, and the playback quality is strong and clear.





THE COVER

EX :  Please see photos / the laminated front cover with Betty Brader's artwork is in quite nice shape / well-stored with some minor scuffing and a small amount of age-related yellowing, largely on the non-laminated back cover / a name is stamped on the back cover / bright front cover colors / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no writing, paper loss, paper tears, dirt, or stains.



Included is the original Fantasy Records advertising insert that you see pictured in our gallery.
