VarietyVintageVinyl MOONDOG sealed SNAKETIME SERIES originally recorded in 1956 as 78 rpm vinyl LP Many times during the late sixties, my job with Columbia Records took me to the labels headquarters in New York. Outside Black Rock at 51W 52nd street stood a huge white bearded figure draped in a dusty old cloak, capped with a pair of Viking horns, and holding erect a hardwood staff. This I was told was the legendary composer, Moondog.
Just a few years later James William Guercio, producer of The Buckinghams, Blood Sweat and Tears, and Chicago, took it upon himself to contemporize and record the genius of this musical oddity. Since that time I have never forgotten Moondog.
So when I discovered this album of his first 1956 recordings, I had to order several copies. This recording offers an amazing cross section of the sort of inventive, avant-garde undertakings this artist was to accomplish throughout his life.
