SON HOUSE sealed THE LEGENDARY FATHER OF FOLK BLUES vinyl Columbia LP
Son House shot a man dead during what was called a house frolic in Lyons, MS. He was sent immediately to the notorious Parchman Farm prison. A claim of self defense finally reached the right ears and he was released after two years. Then hooking-up with fellow delta bluesman, Charley Patton, he followed Patton to Grafton, WI and recorded for the legendary blues label, Paramount Records. After recording just three acclaimed yet auditory inferior 78s, Son took refuge in retirement.
In 1964 a group of blues researchers, led by Canned Heat guitarist Alan Wilson, discovered Son House living unassumingly in upstate New York. A year later found him traversing the country on the college concert and coffee house circuit, even playing a concert at Carnegie Hall.
In that same year Columbia Records A&R giant and producer John Hammond brought Son House to his first real recording studio. This album features nine extended offerings, in their original lengths. Alan Wilson joins House playing guitar and harmonica.
