Offered is a distinctive release in the History Of Recorded Music - the Debut Album of Cab Calloway And His Orchestra. This is the First Edition Release from October, 1943 on the Brunswick Label.

The Shellac Era was known more for double-sided singles releases than albums. Nonetheless, it was also the era where the concept of Record Albums was being explored by record manufacturers. The idea of Cover Artwork was also established, featuring inventive artist renderings of music and musicians - such as the caricature of the great Cab Calloway that you see on the front cover of the album here.

While the extraordinary popularity of Cab and The Band meant their records were often played to death by his adoring fans, our offering here is a great rarity. The "Book-Style" cover and the 4 shellac recordings are in quite attractive, Investment Grade Condition at Excellent +. 

You Tube has many of the performances of Cab Calloway And His Orchestra, including the titles you see here. Cab's unique talents were demonstrated in his electric performances - his dance routines and musical styles had no equal. This was also something quite new - a jazz, blues band leader who rarely played an instrument - but rather danced and did the vocals. A Front Man!

THE SHELLAC : EXCELLENT +

EX+ :  Lightly played with minimal evidence of spindlewear, all 8 sides of the 4 records retain much of their original gloss with bright, undamaged Black and Gold Brunswick labels (please see photos).
 
Evident are a few cosmetic scuffs / no visible scratches / no chips or cracking / no deep marks, and all 8 tracks play with no skips or sticks.
 
I completed a play grade to confirm these visuals, and the audio playback is clean and impressive.


THE COVER: EXCELLENT + 

EX+ :  Please see photos / well-stored with some minor scuffing / bright colors / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact with no splits / no writing, paper loss, paper tears, dirt, or stains.

The Album Cover has been designed to have the feel and appearance of suede leather. It's not clear that it is suede - it may be a kind of "flocking". Some of that material is starting to deteriorate on the back outer cover - you can see this in the photo of the back cover in our Photo Gallery.

Cab Calloway And His Orchestra will be arranged into a sturdy mailer with plenty of protective packaging for its journey to you. These original, early recordings are great treasures, and while their shellac composition is brittle - we have not lost one yet!
