Items of Note

The original title of this, Elvis’ fourth movie, was “A Stone for Danny Fisher”. The producer, Hal Wallis, obtained the rights to the movie, which was originally about a boxer, and had James Dean in mind for playing the lead role. After Dean’s death on September 30, 1955, the project was temporarily shelved. Later, in 1957, Wallis suggested to Casablanca director Michael Curtiz that Elvis play the role. Curtiz immediately vetoed the idea saying he was not going to direct a “rock ‘n roll” singer. Wallis asked him if he would just meet with Elvis to talk with him, and after the meeting, Curtiz agreed to allow Elvis to play the lead role; and the character’s occupation was changed from a boxer to a singer.

Elvis was drafted into the army on December 20, 1957. Based on both his request and a request from Wallis, he was granted a sixty-day deferment in order to complete the film. The movie was released on July 2, 1958 (the 2-year anniversary of the recording date for Hound Dog and Don’t Be Cruel). It peaked at number five on the Variety box office earnings charts.

A Little About Me

I first became an Elvis fan in the fall of 1976 and received my first Elvis record for Christmas that year (from my uncle – it was a tan label “Live at Madison Square Garden” because my uncle liked the song “Never Been to Spain”). I am selling some of the records from my collection in hopes that they may bring as much joy to other Elvis fans and collectors as they have to me.

Packaging & Shipping

All records are shipped via media mail in cardboard record mailers designed specifically to ship records safely and securely. Records will be shipped outside their covers to prevent any potential seam splits from developing in transit.
