BARBARA DANE - Anthology of American Folk Songs - "Bessie Smith in Stereo" NM BARBARA DANE - Anthology of American Folk Songs - "Bessie Smith in Stereo" NM Description

The revival of Folk Music that began in the mid-20th Century ("Contemporary Folk Music") has had a profound and continuing effect on the Development and History of Recorded Music. It came at the same time (early 1950's) that the new innovation in recording technology began its transition to the 33  RPM Vinyl "Long Play", and away from its earliest form of 78 RPM shellac.

Much of the newer music forms that followed had "roots" in these poetic melodies. The emotions stirred with the tales telling of melancholy, folklore, custom, and cultural identity provide continuity to the lyrical processes of our nation's oral traditions.

Stinson Records, Folkways Records and Elektra  were among the standout organizations in the recording and manufacturing of these national treasures.
