ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome and extremely rare LP from Ducretet Thomson (370 C 001, French pressing, white/yellow/blue circle label, stereo) features Devy Erlih's magnificent account of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 35, recorded in May 1958 with László Somogyi conducting the Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks.

The slow movement is particularly moving, with the flute soloist matching Erlih in beauty of expression. In fact, the recording is perfectly judged, the soloist not overly spotlit, well-balanced with the orchestra, which rose to the occasion with their inspired guest and the ever reliable Somogyi on the podium.

This disc is quite elusive in any pressing, much less in stereo. The liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, in French only, were written by Roger Cotte. The striking cover art was executed by Pierre Bureau.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edge wear, general aging, minor ring wear, corner bumping and a small bit of writing to the reverse side. However, there are no seam splits or other defects and the jacket remains solid and attractive. Overall, this rates as a VERY GOOD collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is NM-. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM- vs. MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is superb. There are no tics or pops, nor are there any scratches. However, the surfaces are not CD silent. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM- collector's copy.

All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve. The images I've provided are of the actual item you are potentially bidding on - these are not stock images or images I've taken from other sites. Bid with confidence!
