This listing is for a rare factory sealed copy of "The Sky Pilot Choir (With The Sutton Sisters) Directed By Doris Akers" LP.

 

The Sky Pilot Choir was formed and directed by Doris Akers in 1958 and this is a re-release of their 1st album. Doris is a legend and many of her songs appear in church hymnals around the world including "God Is So Good To Me", "I Cannot Fail The Lord", "Sweet Jesus", and "Grow Closer", all of which are featured on this album. Her compositions have been recorded by many Gospel and secular artists, including Mahalia Jackson, The Statesmen, The Caravans, Willie Mae Ford Smith, Clara Ward, Sallie Martin Singers, Brother Joe May, Bill Gaither, Ernie Haase, George Beverly Shea, Elvis Presley, Conway Twitty and many others. Two of her songs were sung in Elvis Presley's last movie. Doris has received many awards including back-to-back "Gospel Music Composer of the Year" in both 1960 and 1961. Doris was posthumously inducted to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
