Kenny Drew was an unsung master of bebop. A brilliant pianist who started with the example of Bud Powell and then developed his own sound within the style, in the '50s Drew worked with some of the most important innovators of all time including Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Buddy DeFranco, Dinah Washington and Art Blakey. By 1960 when he recorded "Undercurrent", Drew had already led ten albums of his own, mostly with duos and trios. Oddly enough he only had the opportunity to lead two albums in his life for Blue Note, an early effort from 1953 and the classic "Undercurrent". Joined in a quintet by the young firebrand trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, the always-stimulating tenor-saxophonist Hank Mobley, bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes, the 32-year old pianist shows that he was ready to truly make his mark on the jazz world. All six compositions are his, and in his accompaniment of the passionate horn men and also in his soulful solos, Drew shows that he was one of the major hard bop stylists. This high energy album, which finds Hubbard, Mobley and Drew consistently inspiring each other to come up with heated statements, has many of the pianist's finest compositions including the roaring "Undercurrent," the bluesy "Funk-Cosity," the gospellish "The Pot's On," the well titled "Groovin' the Blues" and the beautiful "Ballade." Kenny Drew, who would move permanently to Europe in 1964 and would not lead another album until 1973, is heard throughout at the peak of his powers, creating his finest recording. Cut at 33 1/3rpm by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original Rudy Van Gelder Blue Note master tapes. Pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl by RTI. City Hall Records has designed a special cardboard mailer with extra protective spaces on the corners.  Your record will also be insulated with thick cardboard pads and packed tightly to avoid movement during shipping.  We understand that you want your LPs to arrive in the condition described.  Over 7,000 shipments have produced only praise for our packing methods. 

Our average time to ship is within 1 business day after receipt of your payment.  Most US shipments are delivered within 10 days but Media Mail varies; please allow up to 15 business days before calling it late.

2. If you see a discounted shipping amount listed in green, then you are all set to Proceed To Checkout.

Wait for us to modify the shipping rate on the invoice which we will send you the first business day after you've done this.

 

Sealed LP Inspection Service

Since all of our items are factory sealed we cannot be fully responsible for the condition of the invisible part, unless you ask us to inspect it.  Even though incorrect, defective or damaged product is very rare, we highly recommend that you allow us to inspect your item before we ship it.  Just let us know by writing INSPECT in the note to seller box when paying via PayPal.

 

If there is something wrong with your record that could only have been seen by such inspection, and you did not request it, we will not be responsible for the cost of shipping the faulty product back here, or for the shipping of a replacement item to you. We will replace the faulty item, however, as long as you pay for these freight costs.

Also, many LP buyers prefer to have the disc shipped outside the jacket to minimize damage to the jacket.  If you have requested that we inspect the disc, then we will pack it outside the jacket.

International Customers

International customers; the rates shown for shipping do not apply to you.  Please input your country on the "Shipping and payments" tab above to see the rates.  If you intend on buying more than 1 LP, please  please allow us to invoice you at the time of your purchase so that you can get the best deal.

If you're in a country other than U.S. or Canada, please note you'll get the best per-unit price and fastest delivery on your LP shipments by ordering at least 4 discs at a time.

We enclose an actual invoice with your shipment and do not falsify customs valuations.

If you are at an address where there are customs duties, and you have ordered an amount that puts you just over the limit for avoidance of such duties, we are willing to do you the service of discounting the merchandise a little upon request, if you will allow us to make up for it with an equivalent increase in shipping and handling fees. We would want your agreement to give us good rankings for fair shipping/handling fees in such instances.

Please Note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

Insurance

Like all eBay sellers, we're required to ensure that every shipment reaches the buyer in good condition. For that reason every eBay seller is self-insuring, and must build that cost into their selling price and/or shipping/handling fees. Nevertheless, if you wish to buy your own insurance, you may.
