Excellent, guaranteed original, early-1970s MASSACHUESETTS Private-Pressing SSW PROMO Rural Folk Psych LP by SMOKEY STOVER and GINO MALGERI entitled "Smokey Stover and Gino Malgeri" on Reflection Studios Records (#27244). This is the first copy I've ever had of this rarity (very small pressing)! Completely unknown private press LP from Hudson,Mass. This appears to be mostly a one man effort, to quote the back sleeve: "Lead, Rhythm and Bass Guitar, Lead & Background Vocals-Smokey Stover, Drums & Dialogue. Also Rhythm Guitar tracks 4 & 12 Gino Malgeri. Produced At Poor Farm Recording Studio Hudson, Mass." Heavy rural vibe with quite a few covers (16 Tons, Jaguar & The Thunderbird,...) - but skip those and go to the originals! Sparse guitar/spoken word piece "Sharp Wooden Frame" is a great original with lyrics like; "...And whenever I look/My mind is suddenly rushed.... A warm happy glow/freezes inside of me... And the words I Love You/Are scrawled in 10 foot capitals/ On the inside/of my chest..." The Stover original "Country Funk" is an aptly titled gut-bucket workout, and the Stover/Malgeri collaboration "Our Afterthoughts" is another dark spoken word with minimal guitar/whistling motif and heavy Boston accent: "I am happy still/that even for a moment You laughed in my direction/And chased my nakedness down a lonely beach/I shall be more silent/And cold hearted Than you are now..." Then shuffles into a fine rural rock jam about bills, God and Vietnam...wow! Condition: Cover = solid VG+ (light wear, no seam splits, "227" written on the front), Record = beautiful VG++ very light paper scuffs - plays through great!, small "227" written on side One only). Winning bidder to add $3.75 postage in the USA. Good luck - check out my other auctions for more vintage records for sale and save on combined postage costs!
