ALL VINYL RECORD GRADING IS BASED ON VISUAL INSPECTION
A vinyl sound recording according to many collectors has two important components: visual and audio. Grading is a matter of personal interpretation and opinion. My goal is to give you the most accurate visual assessment of each record I post. As a long time collector I will grade a record the same way I would evaluate it if I was buying it for myself.
Brief Overview of Industry Grading Standards:
SS: Still Sealed, sealed at factory and never opened.
M: Mint, Perfection, no flaws, defects, marks or otherwise indications of being handled or played.
NM or M-: Near mint or mint minus. The vinyl is virtually flawless, bright and shiny. A very minor, barely visible scuff or two may be permitted, but no scratches.
E or VG++: Excellent or Very Good. There can be possibly a hairline scratch or two but nothing that that is obvious or affects play. Vinyl is bright & shiny and label is clean & unmarked.
VG+: Very Good Plus. There will be some visible surface wear, very minor scratches and scuffs, but minimal impact on the sound quality. Vinyl & label may have minor imperfections, but otherwise clean.
VG: Very Good. Vinyl will have minor surface scratches or scuffs that will cause minor surface noise but do not overpower the music. No skips. Vinyl & label may be dull, grayish and have small tears. Label may have writing tape marks etc.
G: Good. Well played, dull, grayish vinyl with deep scratches and wears causing distracting surface noise. Labels may be significantly defaced or damaged.
F/P: Fair or Poor. There will be major surface noise, surface damage, deep scratches and skips.
